Phased reopening for local schools
Welsh Government has revealed details about how children will start to return to school in Wales. From Monday 29 June, a series of sessions called ‘Check In, Catch Up - Prepare for Summer and September’ will take place to prepare pupils for a phased return to normal lessons in September, and will be carried out with full social distancing and well-being procedures in place. Test Trace Protect is now live in Bridgend County Borough
The Test, Trace, Protect service is now live across the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board region, and all residents and key workers who are showing symptoms of the coronavirus are being urged to apply for a test. Read more about the Test, Trace, Protect scheme.

Latest update to lockdown arrangements
Welsh Government guidance on lockdown arrangements during the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic has been updated. Following the recent announcement from First Minister Mark Drakeford, the lockdown is set to continue in Bridgend County Borough with several minor changes. While general advice remains that residents should stay at home, avoid all unnecessary contact, exercise locally and minimise the risk of exposure to the virus, people from two different households will be able to meet each other outdoors in e.g. private gardens or parks. New advice on shielding
The Chief Medical Officer has advised that those who are shielding can start to take unlimited exercise outdoors as long as social distancing rules and hand hygiene practise are observed. Volunteers put Bridgend among ‘best in Wales’
This Volunteers Week we’d like to thank our army of amazing volunteers who have been instrumental to the health and wellbeing of many of our residents since the Covid-19 coronavirus began. Bridgend County Borough is among the best in Wales for the number of volunteers supporting local communities during the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. 1,553 people have been recorded as registering as official volunteers between 1 March and 21 May with the Bridgend Association of Voluntary Organisations (BAVO). Online learning during the pandemic
Bridgend Adult Community Learning is offering a range of free accredited online courses during the pandemic in areas such as tutor-led IT courses, counselling and managing stress. Courses start on Tuesday 16 June, so find out more about our online courses or enrol today.

Fees waived for sports clubs
Football and rugby clubs in Bridgend County Borough will not have to pay hire charges for using outdoor sports facilities for the 2019-20 season. The council’s decision takes account of both the exceptional circumstances around the Covid-19 crisis and the continued commitment of sports clubs and town and community councils to complete community asset transfers of outdoor facilities. Visiting a recycling centre
Anyone who is planning an essential trip to a community recycling centre is reminded to check the ‘odds and evens’ number plate schedule to make sure they are selecting the right day for access, and to take note of the traffic management arrangements for each of the sites.

‘Start-back’ business package of support
As the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic continues, Bridgend County Borough Council are inviting local retail businesses who are considering reopening to book a free place on the online Covid-19 awareness training. This training can help make sure the premises is well prepared to welcome customers back and includes a free sneeze guard. Read more about the free training for businesses.

Social care opportunities
More people are being sought to help support the county borough’s most vulnerable residents. A number of employment opportunities are available, and anyone who has previously worked in social care or who has transferable skills is invited to apply.
