Four steps to easing lockdown
The Prime Minister announced on 22 February that a four step approach to easing lockdown will begin with Step 1 from 8 March. A brief guide to this first step is provided below.
Residents and workers in CM13 area of Brentwood advised to get tested following isolated case of South African COVID-19 variant
People aged 16 and over, living or working within the CM13 postcode in Brentwood, are being asked to get a COVID-19 test as soon as possible, whether they have symptoms or not. The advice from Public Health England follows confirmation of an isolated case of the South African COVID-19 variant in this specific location, not linked to international travel. The case has prompted a move to ‘surge’ testing in the area. Surge testing has been deployed in other areas of the country following other confirmed cases of the South African variant. Essex County Council is currently working with NHS Test and Trace, Public Health England and Brentwood Borough Council to increase local testing capacity in the area.
The aim is to understand what, if any, spread of the new variant within the local community may have occurred and limit the opportunity for any further spread. Robust contact tracing has taken place following identification of the isolated case.
Residents and businesses within the identified postcode have been contacted by letter to explain how and where they can get a COVID-19 test.
How to get a test if you live or work in CM13
Everyone who lives or works in CM13 is being asked to have one test, unless they have had a positive COVID-19 result in the last 90 days or they are currently showing symptoms. Children aged up to 15 do not need to have a test.
Young people aged between 16-18 will need to have the test done by a parent or guardian, whether they get tested at a mobile testing unit or at home.
If you have COVID-19 symptoms and have not yet taken a test, you should book a test on Gov.uk or via the NHS COVID-19 app.
Book a test at a local mobile testing unit
-
choose the mobile testing site you want to visit
-
answer ‘Yes’ when asked ‘Is the person who needs a test part of a trial or government project?’
-
select ‘Taking part in community testing’.
You can book your test at one of four mobile testing units:
-
Shenfield High School car park, Oliver Road, Shenfield, Brentwood, CM15 8QD
-
Thorndon Country Park (south car park), A128 Brentwood Road, West Horndon, Brentwood, CM13 3L
-
Adult Community Learning car park, Poplar Drive, Hutton, Brentwood, CM13 1BD. (Please note there is no parking available at this site)
-
The Brentwood Centre, Doddinghurst Road, Brentwood, CM15 9NN.
All four mobile testing units are open from 9am to 3pm, 7 days per week.
If you cannot visit a testing unit or collect a test
If you cannot visit a testing unit or pick up a home testing kit, we will contact you. A team of volunteers will be knocking on doors in the area to offer home testing kits to those who cannot leave home. The volunteers will be easily identifiable and will never ask for payment or personal details.
After your test
In most cases, you will get your test result by email or text within 48 hours of completing or returning your test. It can take longer in some cases.
If you test positive, you must self-isolate immediately. You must also self-isolate if you develop symptoms or are told you are a contact of a positive case by NHS Test and Trace at any time.
If you test negative, you must continue to follow COVID-19 guidance around hands, face, space.
Statement from Brentwood Borough Council Leader, Councillor Chris Hossack
"This is a single case and there are protocols in place which are now rolling out to ensure that the surge testing is efficient and effective. My sincere thanks to all those volunteers who are helping to get the letters to residents in the CM13 postcode out there and of course to all those conducting the tests. I would ask that those residents and businesses that receive a letter follow the requested action to get tested. Brentwood’s COVID-19 infection rate has been falling consistently which is good news and we need to make sure that we take the required steps now to ensure the safety of the community and borough."
Impact of COVID-19 on the waste & recycling collection service
Brentwood Borough Council's waste & recycling staff are endeavouring to operate as normal, however, due to the impact of COVID related illness on our staff it may be necessary to suspend some collection services. If your waste and recycling is not collected by 4pm on your designated collection, please take your waste and recycling back in and represent it on your next collection calendar day.
For the reasons explained above it may also be necessary to suspend the weekly collection of bulky waste items. Again, if your item(s) are not collected by 3pm on the collection day, we ask that you represent your item(s) the following week for collection.
Please continue to check our Waste & Recycling web page for updates on the collection service.
While we redeploy our operatives to essential waste services, we regret that some of our other services may be disrupted. If you need to report a street scene issue, please use our online reporting tool or contact us on 01277 312500 and we will complete all work in priority order.
We appreciate your understanding and patience at this challenging time.
