Brentwood High Street Update
Brentwood High Street to close to most vehicles to help people keep safe by social distancing in the town centre
Essex County Council and Brentwood Borough Council have been working together to make the town centre safer for people during the COVID-19 crisis. Called ‘Safer, Greener, Healthier’, the scheme aims to help social distancing by providing larger, safer spaces in key locations for town centre shoppers, residents, workers and visitors.
Please be aware that Essex Highways will start to install on-street temporary measures, including barriers, signs and cones, on roads in the town centre from Saturday 4 July. The High Street will be closed to vehicles, except for buses and cyclists, from 9am to 6pm for an interim period.

Beauticians, Nail Salons and Cosmetic Procedure Providers
Essex Trading Standards has advised that there have been reports of beauticians, nail salons and cosmetic procedure providers planning to open on 4 July. The Government has decided that a number of businesses, including beauty salons and spas must remain closed.
Anyone operating could be served with a prohibition notice and then prosecuted, resulting in an unlimited fine. We know it is difficult but please protect yourselves, the public and limit the spread of the virus by staying closed. For further information visit GOV.UK

Brentwood Discretionary Business Grant Scheme Extended
Brentwood Borough Council was allocated approximately £900,000 in government funding to support certain businesses and charities who have been impacted by COVID-19 but were not eligible for either the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant Fund or the Small Business Grant Fund. This additional funding is aimed at businesses who have ongoing fixed property-related costs.
After a successful tranche of discretionary business grant awards, the Council has £84,000 remaining to support eligible businesses that satisfy the criteria who have not previously applied.
Grants of up to £2,000, £5,000 or £10,000, to a maximum of up to £25,000 are available. The level of award will depend on the number of eligible businesses that apply and the funding which is capped at £84,000.
For further information and how to apply online please go to our Business Support web page. Applications are open now and close on Sunday 5 July at 23:59.
