Missed Garden and Glass Collections
Unfortunately, due to the current situation we do not have the resource to return and collect reported missed collections of garden waste or glass. Instead we ask that you store your green waste or glass and place out for collection on your next scheduled recycling collection day.
How to get rid of waste if you are self-isolating or have Coronavirus
Any individuals asked to self-isolate, either as a precaution or because they are confirmed to have Coronavirus (COVID-19), should follow this advice to get rid of their household waste to ensure the virus is not spread via personal waste.
-
Individuals should place all personal waste such as used tissues and disposable cleaning cloths, securely in a plastic bag or bin liner.
-
This plastic bag should then be placed in another plastic bag and securely tied.
-
These bags must be stored separately to other waste for at least 72 hours before being placed in the general rubbish collection.
After 72 hours outside the body the virus is no longer viable and the double bagged waste can be put in the general rubbish collection as normal. Only waste that is heavily contaminated, such as tissues that have been coughed in and cleaning cloths that have been heavily contaminated need to be treated in this way. Regular household recycling and waste should be treated as normal.
Where to obtain orange sacks
The libraries are currently closed, however there are several outlets in the Borough where you can obtain orange sacks free of charge.
Where to obtain green sacks
The garden waste green sacks cost £3.30 for a roll of 10 sacks and are available to purchase from various outlets across the Borough.
Garden Waste Brown Bins
New or additional brown bins can be ordered by completing our application form, however, please be aware that although we are still aiming to deliver new bins within 10 working days, due to the current situation and an increase in demand there may be a short delay. Please note that your contract will not start until your bin has been delivered.
Food Waste
Food waste sacks are also available from various outlets across the borough, however, it is acceptable to use newspaper. Here is some useful guidance on how to line your indoor food waste caddy with newspaper.
Glass Collections
Glass collections were suspended briefly and were re-instated on April 28th, however, this may mean that you have accumulated more glass than usual for recycling. We therefore ask that you limit the amount you present in your red box so as not to overload the service.
Due to the closure of the Town Hall reception we are currently unable to provide red boxes, however, if you require a red box please submit your order, which will be kept on record until our reception service resumes.
Essex Civic Amenity Sites
All recycling centres have been closed until further notice. Please continue to check the Love Essex website for updates.
Bulky Household Waste Collections
The weekly bulky household waste service will be re-instated on 16th May and items will be collected on a Saturday. To book a collection please complete our online application form.
Textile Collection Service
Due to guidance received from Government the textile collection service operated by Essex Textiles has been suspended until further notice. Please continue to check our Textiles web page for updates.
Business Waste
Many businesses are not currently operating and you can suspend your business waste service by notifying us at businesswaste@brentwood.gov.uk. Your bins will remain at your current location and the collections will only resume upon your instructions. All charges will reflect the suspension.
Forthcoming Changes to Recycling Collections
Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the roll out of the new recycling scheme, previously due 1st June 2020, has been postponed. Please keep an eye on our website and social media for further updates.
