Easter recycling tips

Check out our top tips for a more recycling friendly Easter

easter eggs
  • Easter egg foil - simply scrunch the foil into a loose ball along with any other bits of used clean foil and put it in your blue bin. If it springs back open when you try to scrunch it, this means it is laminated and should go into your green bin.
  • Easter egg packaging - try to choose Easter eggs that come in less packaging, or in recyclable packaging. The cardboard boxes can be flattened to save space and you can put them in your blue bin with the plastic cases.
  • Gift basket wrapping and sweet wrappers - if you have received an Easter basket wrapped in plastic cellophane, this wrapping unfortunately can not go into your blue bin. You can take these to your local supermarket for recycling along with plastic bags. To find your nearest participating store, check on the Recycle Now website
  • Easter cards - once you are done displaying your cards, these can be recycled in your blue bin, along with their envelopes. If they have glitter or foil on them, they should go in your green bin.
  • Easter food - there are lots of ways to use up surplus food, for some delicious Easter leftover recipes please visit Love Food Hate Waste. Any food you are unable to use can go in your food waste caddy.

Quick and easy leftover recipe

Frozen banana and chocolate lollies

  • chopped nuts or sprinkles to decorate
  • four lolly sticks

Recipe

  1. Put peeled bananas into the freezer and leave them until frozen.
  2. Melt some leftover chocolate, leave to cool down but do not let set.
  3. Take the bananas out of the freezer and whilst still frozen cut them in half and push a lolly stick in the end of each piece of banana.
  4. Coat the bananas with the cooled chocolate then roll in the chopped nuts or sprinkles and allow to set.
  5. Wrap the bananas in clingfilm, place them in a freezer bag and freeze.
