"Back to school" is a phrase that I have never enjoyed very much. As a child I would think, "Oh no, not school again!". As a mother I would think, "Oh no, I need to buy more uniform and pencil cases" and as I have got even older I think "Oh no, more traffic on the roads!" I guess the phrase (don't make me say it again let's call it "BTS") really signifies that summer is over, the end of sunshine and no more fun! Particularly gaulling when I saw notices stating "BTS" in shop windows way back in late July! Well the Library Service says summer is not over and view September as an opportunity, why not try something new, learn a new skill, join a new group, read a new book - have more fun! The Library Service has new courses on offer, new events and the first ever Bracknell Forest Literary festival in October. I'm often surprised at the number of activities available across Bracknell Forest by many organisations - make the most of them. Enjoy! As Rosamunde Pilcher wrote in her Book September; “happiness is making the most of what you have and riches is making the most of what you’ve got.”

The festival starts on Saturday 26th October in the beautiful heritage gardens of South Hill Park with a series of 3 poetry workshops led by children's poet Joseph Coelho. Join us also on the day for an Enchanted Forest Festival to celebrate the end to the Enchanted Tails and Trails’ series of art workshops organized over the summer by Creative Junction, in partnership with Bracknell forest Libraries. The whole family can enjoy interactive sculptures, arts, crafts, performances, trails, costumed characters and more splendiferous story shenanigans inspired by favourite children's stories. Step into this “Bracknell” forest of make believe and let's bring literature to life.

New coding Club starting in Bracknell and Great Hollands Libraries
Learn how to make cool games, animations, and websites!
Limited places are available in the new code clubs that are starting for this school year on Saturday 28th September. Code clubs run every Saturday term time 10:00am-11:00am for children aged 8-12 to learn how to program firstly using Scratch, then HTML in the spring term and Python in the summer. Learning to program is lots of fun, as well as a valuable skill!
