Help with the cost of living

Thank you to everyone that attended our all staff briefing on Tuesday 15 November.

We heard about a range of ways to get support through difficult financial times – whether for ourselves, the Bradford District residents we are supporting, or to help friends and family.

There is a full round up of all the information on Bradnet - take another look at the information and please share with teams.

Festive/christmas gift appeal

Festive gift appeal to support families in our district

Hundreds of families in our district are struggling this winter.

We're inviting council colleagues to make donations of new, unwrapped presents for vulnerable children in our district who may otherwise receive little or nothing this festive season.

Help us give every child a gift this December

If you are able to help, with your support we would like to ensure that no child goes without a Christmas or festive gift. Between us we can make a real difference to the lives of children and young people.

How to help and what to buy

  • Buy your gift and deliver it to one of the council buildings listed below. Good examples are toys, books, clothing, art supplies, gift vouchers, confectionary, selection boxes, toiletry gift sets and make up for older children. No battery operated toys or guns/weapon related toys please.
  • The gift should be suitable for children between the ages of 0 to 16.
  • No second-hand presents – must be new or 'as new'. All donations must be unwrapped.
  • Suggested budget should be between £5 and £20.
  • Please note, we are unable to take cash donations.

How to donate

Drop off, by Wednesday, 14 December, during working hours at:

  • Margaret McMillan Tower, Bradford
  • Sir Henry Mitchell House, Bradford*
  • Shipley Town Hall
  • Keighley Town Hall

*Presents donated at Sir Henry Mitchell House will be reserved for families who are supported by our Children's Social Care teams.

If you do not work at these locations, please consider making a team collection in your depot or workplace and arranging for someone to drop the gifts off.

Managers or building admin - please print off the poster on Bradnet to display in staff areas as appropriate. Thank you.

Perhaps you will identify with Stephanie's story, or perhaps you'll learn about an experience very different from your own.

Whatever your starting point, the session will help you gain unique insights to bring our wider equality, diversity and inclusion agenda to life, and to help you understand how to support diversity and be an ally.

The session will be online on Teams. Date: Monday, 5  December 2022, Time: 9.45am -11.15am.

Cycle to Work Scheme now open

An annual scheme, which allows council employees to spread the cost of cycling to work, is now open for applications.

The Cycle to Work scheme, which runs from 1 November to 10 December 2022, allows staff to purchase up to £4000 worth of bike related items such as a new bike, accessories, sportswear and helmets via a salary sacrifice scheme.

The scheme allows applicants to spread the costs across the year, with the money deducted directly from their salaries. Savings of up to 40 per cent off the usual retail cost can also be made.

During the application window you can apply and browse the online shop at www.cyclesolutions.info/bradfordcouncil. Alternatively, you can visit a participating store, including: Paul Milnes Cycles, Bradford; All Terrain Cycles, Saltaire; Wheelbase, Ilkley, or Alpkit, Ilkley.

Why cycle?

Cycling is a great way to get fit and healthy, avoid congestion and save money on fuel.

In recent years more segregated cycle lanes have been installed, towpaths and traffic free routes have been improved and more cycle parking provision is available.

For more information please see:

Changes to Built Environment mailbox addresses

Please note, all Built Environment mailboxes addresses (with the exception of ECCU and ISG) have changed from the former BTS (Building and Technical Services) prefix to the new BE (Built Environment) prefix.

Emails to previous mailboxes will automatically be re-directed to the new ones however if you need to contact Built Environment teams then please use the correctly prefixed 'BE' mailbox from the global address list.

Mailboxes belonging to The Energy Team (ECCU) and ISG are currently under review and will most likely change in the near future.  Whilst all other team names remain the same, please note that Architects mailbox has now become 'Design' mailbox.

The important thing to note is that the Helpdesk: BEhelpdesk@bradford.gov.uk remains as the main mailbox for all enquiries/requests for Built Environment.

16 Days of Action against domestic violence

Friday 25 November marked the start of 16 Days of Action Against Gender-Based Violence.

Bradford District domestic abuse and sexual violence information (DASV) offers help and support to people across the Bradford District, for anyone experiencing domestic abuse and/or sexual violence. Taking this first step is so important whether you're a victim, a friend or family member or someone who has been abusive who wants to change their behaviour.

You can find out more on their website: https://bradford-dasv.co.uk/

To mark 16 Days of Action, Bradford DASV is hosting a series of events over the next week looking into different forms of domestic abuse and violence, the perpetrators and their victims.

To find out more about these events and how to attend, visit https://bradford-dasv.co.uk/events/
