New sensory room opens at Barkerend Family Hub
Families in Bradford can enjoy a new sensory space at Barkerend Family Hub, designed to support babies, children and young people of all ages, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
The state-of-the-art sensory room, which was officially opened in September, can be used free of charge by families across the district. It features interactive lighting and sound equipment, and soft sensory surfaces, to provide a safe environment where children can explore, play and relax.
Improving the hub to support families
The new sensory room has been installed as part of wider improvements to the hub, including the creation of a new birth registration room on the ground floor, making this service more accessible and convenient for families.
The project has been funded through the government's Start for Life programme, now known as Best Start in Life, and forms part of ongoing investment in Best Start Family Hubs across the Bradford district. The initiative reflects Bradford Children and Families Trust's commitment to providing early help and support for families, ensuring that children get the best possible start in life and can access the right support at the right time.
Launch event and video
A big thank you to all the families and colleagues who came along to our official opening of the new space in September. You can see a short video of the opening, including a peek inside the sensory room, on the Bradford East Facebook page: Sensory Room reel.
Booking a slot in the sensory space
Families can book a free slot in the sensory room by contacting Barkerend Family Hub directly. Further sensory rooms are also available at Family Hubs across the Bradford district, including Reevy Hill, Farcliffe, Rainbow and Owlet. Please look at the Family Hub Timetables on the FYI (Families and Young Persons Information) website to find out more.
