Act Now, Age Better

Act Now, Age Better

Age UK is encouraging everyone to move more for a better later life.

Lots of us are living longer than ever before, however many people spend their later years in ill health. Not all illness is avoidable, but you can reduce the risk of health problems by taking action earlier in life. Making movement part of daily life is important as acting now increases the chances of living the life we want later.

You can also find simple exercises that you can do to make it easier to stay independent and able to do the things you want to do later in life on our website here.

Join Dr Hussain in his debunked clinic as he looks at some of the myths surrounding movement as we get older in this film here.

Friends with Cars

Friends with cars

HALE are hoping to launch a new pilot scheme across Shipley, Bingley and East Bradford, to organise trips out for members of our local community who do not have access to transport.

If you live locally, have a car and some spare time to help out, and want to meet new people and visit new places – local parks, gardens, stately homes or the Dales - then HALE are looking for volunteer drivers.

This is a great way to support your local community and help those who would otherwise be unable to enjoy a trip out as well as allowing drivers to meet new people and enjoy newfound connections.

If you would like to be part of this scheme, please click the button below to email Khalil Ahmed or call 07946 154410.

Men’s Shed at Windhill Community Centre

Men's Shed at Windhill Community Centre

The Men’s Shed opened in Windhill (BD18) to provide a working space for men of all ages and backgrounds. Giving them access to tools, helping them learn new skills and pass on existing skills, making things from wood and other materials.

Neighbourhood Warden, Ben McLoughlin, says “the shed will be a flexible-use space and has been set up to benefit different needs in the community. It can also be used as a place to take some time out and reflect. We hope that, by having an additional resource in the community, it can complement and uplift the existing work going on in the Windhill Community Centre.”

The Shed is fully insulated, and it includes a work bench that is suitable for wheelchair users. As well as the Men’s group, the Shed can also be used by other groups who use Windhill Community Centre, for example the popular Knit and Natter group.

Mondays and Fridays: 10am - 2pm
Windhill Community Centre, Church St, Windhill, BD18 2NR
