It's June, and with that we're halfway through 2025.
What a start to the year it's been - fantastic new exhibitions, displays, and exciting engaging events across all of our sites.
There's lots more to come too, which we're touching on in this newsletter.
Keep signed up to this newsletter and regularly checking our socials to make sure you're up to date with all the latest news and information about Bradford District Museums and Galleries.
Half term might nearly be over, but we've one last event for you to enjoy. Join us at Bolling Hall Museum on the 1st of June for a living history event in conjunction with the Newcastle's Regiment of the Sealed Knot Society.
Come along to experience living in the 1640’s and find out how Royalists at Bolling Hall planned to ransack Parliamentarian Bradford.
You'll be able to see how they lived, what they ate, how they made their clothes and garrisoned the Hall to keep it safe.
There will even be weapon demonstration and a cannon fired!
24 May - 17 August
Thank you for your patience whilst we installed our latest exhibitions at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery as part of our City of Culture national partnership programme.
Last week we launched the Jameel Prize : Moving Images, an international art award exhibition that recognises contemporary work inspired by the Islamic tradition, history and culture exhibition (in partnership with Art Jameel and the V&A Museum) and we are celebrating the power of portraiture, with 'Journeys with Mai' (part of a National Touring programme with the National Portrait Gallery).
We are delighted to now be able to welcome visitors back to Cartwright Hall with the opportunity to see these two stunning exhibitions. We have a full programme of events to complement both exhibitions - so keep an eye out for what's coming up on our website and socials.
Please be aware that due to current staffing levels we are operating a reduced menu in the Refreshment Room Cafe.
21 June - 14 September
There's been lots of activity at Cliffe Castle Museum as the work has begun to install Ice Age Art now - a fantastic new exhibition created in partnership with the British Museum and Bradford 2025.
This visually stunning exhibition presents work by people living in Europe at the end of the last Ice Age and explores the creativity that existed thousands of years ago alongside more recent works from celebrated artists.
The exhibition opens on 21 June and we can't wait for you to see it. There's also a whole range of events being arranged to complement it, particularly over the summer holidays, so keep checking back with our website and socials for the latest details.
Do you have fond memories of the Fountains Cafe?
Our latest blog by assistant curator Dr Lauren Padgett gives an insight into the work that took place behind the scenes to bring parts of this iconic Bradford cafe into the Industrial Museum.
Follow the link to read the blog and listen to audio snippets of the discussion Lauren had with Mary & Chris Georgiou about some of their favourite memories of running the cafe.
So much of what we do is only possible with the support of our wonderful team of volunteers.
Museum volunteers carry out a wide range of activities across the service. Our volunteers carry out behind the scenes work researching the collections, they interact with our many visitors and gather valuable feedback, they also help in delivering our exciting range of events and activities. We are incredibly grateful for their hard work and support to the service.
On social media we will be making a point to highlight volunteer activity during Volunteer Week June 2nd - 8th. In the meantime, here's a range of volunteer-linked blogs to enjoy:
