BEEP helps a local couple transform their lives
Local couple Jacqueline and Philip Tedder from Cross Hills have seen amazing results since joining the BEEP programme.
“If like us, you think that you’re too old to start something new, or you’ll be the most unfit person there, or that people will laugh at you, it’s really not the case. Whatever is stopping you, we would both say just take a deep breath and give it ago. The BEEP programme has given us our energy and our lives back, truly we have been inspired by the BEEP team and seeing the others there”.
Bradford Encouraging Exercise in People (BEEP) is a free physical activity referral service that encourages people who are inactive, to become more active, with a free 52 week support programme.
It’s also a great way for people living with long term health conditions to increase their physical activity levels and improve their health.

World Heart Day - 29 September
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the world’s number one killer. Conditions affecting the heart or blood vessels like heart attack, stroke and heart failure kill millions of people every year.
We want to bring this number down and it's definitely possible because 80% of premature deaths from CVD are preventable.
Making small changes to your lifestyle with what you eat and drink, how much you exercise, and how you manage stress can really help to look after your heart health.
Find out about healthy food swaps with Swap Well to Eat Well and become more active with the 20 Minute Movement.
Read NHS info about how to prevent heart disease and if you have experienced heart problems think about kick starting some health improvements.
If you already have a heart condition you may benefit from joining the Living Well BEEP Programme (See story above).

Mass transit survey for West Yorkshire
A survey is open for people to give their views, suggestions and feedback on a proposed new network of tram routes in West Yorkshire. The first phase is planned to include a route between Bradford and Leeds.
For those of us trying to make everyday journeys more active, switching some journeys to walking or cycling can help us reach the recommended 150 mins of physical activity that adults should do each week.
Public Transport can also help us achieve this. You could get off the bus and walk part of your journey or walk to the train station if you live near enough. However, some areas of the district don’t have a train route, so another option being explored is a new network of tram routes, to fill the gaps and support a cleaner public transport system.
The survey is open until 30 September

Could you become a suicide champion?
|
|
Suicide is more common in West Yorkshire than in the whole of England for men and women. |
West Yorkshire Suicide Prevention are urging people (aged 18+) to sign up to become Suicide Prevention Champions.
A Suicide Prevention Champion is someone who learns about suicide prevention, so they can help friends, relatives, colleagues or even strangers in the community. Knowing the signs and being able to have a conversation about suicide is a skill we can all develop.
By learning more about suicide, helping to challenge stigma and encouraging action, we can bring the suicide rate down.
