Letting agent sentenced following dangerous conditions

Toilet

A Bradford agent has been fined £10,000 after a tenant’s bathroom floor came close to the point of collapse.

Blackhorse Property Holdings Ltd, based at Thornton Road, Bradford, was also ordered to pay £950 in costs to Bradford Council, following the sentencing hearing at Bradford Magistrates Court on 13 August 2024.

The company had previously been convicted of the offences under the Housing Act 2004, for breaches in a rented property which saw tenants living in dangerous conditions which could have caused them harm, such as a hole in the bathroom floor, and were in court for sentencing.

Don’t lose your vote

The Electoral Commission. Your vote matters, don't lose it.

We are carrying out our annual electoral canvass to ensure the electoral register is updated so that everyone who has the right to vote in upcoming elections can have their say.

You’ll be receiving a letter soon asking if your household's details on the electoral register are correct. All you need to do is follow the instructions, and you'll be ready to have your say in upcoming elections.

The annual canvass ensures that Bradford Council can keep the electoral register up to date, identifying any residents who are not registered to vote so that they can be encouraged to do so.

Gypsy and Traveller photo exhibition at Cartwright Hall

Dreams Songs to Sing

Dreams, and Songs to Sing – a free exhibition by Bradford-based photographer Cath Muldowney, created in partnership with members of Bradford’s Gypsy and Traveller communities at Cartwright Hall Gallery celebrates its successful summer as it draws to a close, with only two weeks left to see it.

The installation at the Bradford Council-run museum is the culmination of work by photographer Cath Muldowney over five years of capturing portraits of members of Gypsy and Traveller communities across the Bradford district and beyond.

The exhibition has been created working in partnership with community and members organisation and charity Leeds GATE (Gypsy and Traveller Exchange) and Bradford District Museums and Galleries. Photos are included from iconic fairs and drives such as Lee Gap, as well as at people’s homes and events. This is the first time these communities have been part of an inclusive photography display in the region.

The exhibition will close with a finale event ‘Writing Our Dreams, Singing Our Songs’ which showcases Gypsy and Traveller writers, poets, and performers. It takes place on Thursday 5 September from 6pm -8pm. It is free and open to the public.
