Pensions increase 2024

The government's Pension Increase (Review) Order tells public sector pension schemes like yours how much to increase pensions by. This year's increase is 6.7%, unless you're only entitled to a partial increase (see below).

As a pensioner you normally get the increase if:

  • you are age 55 or over on 8 April 2023 or
  • you retired because of ill health or
  • you get a spouse, partner or child pension or
  • you retired before 24 March 2024

You only get a partial increase if you retired part way through the 2023/24 financial year. For example, if you retired on 30 September 2023 you would get a 3.35% increase in 2024 but the full increase in future years.

For more information about the 2024 pension increase and to see your pension P60 please go to www.wypf.org.uk/mypension and log in to your account.

Help for households

If you or someone you know is struggling with the rising cost of living make sure you have claimed all the support available to you. Visit the Government's website helpforhouseholds.campaign.gov.uk to find out more about the support available.

Second options exercise for retained former firefighters

If you're not aware, there is now a second options exercise for eligible former retained/on-call firefighters. If you have any questions about this you should refer to your former fire authority in the first instance. For more information about the exercise visit the national firefighters website fpsmember.org/fps-2006-special-members/second-options-exercise

Please be aware that our telephone lines get very busy at this time of year and calls can take longer than usual to be answered.
