Thanks to the Bradford licenced taxi trade
We want to thank everyone who has upgraded their vehicles to meet Clean Air Zone standards. The Bradford licensed vehicle fleet is now 99% compliant and now recognised as probably the cleanest licensed vehicle fleet in the country.
We are keen to provide opportunities for the licensed taxi trade to switch to fully electric vehicles to make our fleet even cleaner. A recent survey amongst the taxi fleet resulted in over 1200 responses, more than two thirds of which expressed an interest in a fully electric vehicle.
Bradford Council are releasing £4.1m of grant funding to assist vehicle proprietors to upgrade vehicles licensed with Bradford Council to fully electric vehicles (EVs).
The scheme will be open for applications from 30 November 2023.
What is the grant for?
The Clean Air Taxi (CAT) Electric Vehicle (EV) running costs grant is to assist EV owners or those with EVs on long-term lease (minimum 2 years lease at time the grant agreement is signed and returned) with the costs of running a fully electric vehicle.
You may use the grant to pay any costs while running an EV. This could be for lease or finance costs of the vehicle, an EV charging point, electricity, maintenance costs, badge/license fees, etc.
How much are the EV grants?
The EV grant amount is up to £10,000 although please see below if you have already received a CAT grant to purchase or upgrade your existing vehicle.
EV grants are paid in 2 equal annual instalments. Firstly, when the assessment of your application is fully completed with the second instalment paid a year later subject to continued compliance with the grant agreement.
Am I Eligible?
The EV grants will be available to:
- Owners of vehicles which are not already compliant with Clean Air Zone standards.
- Owners of vehicles which are compliant with Clean Air Zone standards, but you would like to upgrade to a fully electric vehicle.
If you have already received an EV running costs grant at the lower amount of £6,000, you may be eligible for a top up payment. You do not need to apply for this, the grants service will contact you directly to advise you if you are eligible for a top up payment in the next 2 weeks.
What if I have already received a grant for my current vehicle?
You could still be eligible for an EV grant of up to the difference between the grant you have already received and the EV grant of up to £10,000.
For example, if you have already received a grant of £3,200 to purchase a hybrid private hire vehicle, you could still be eligible for an EV grant of £6,800 on top of the £3,200 you have already received.
