20 Minute Movement – Phase 2 ‘Walk to School Week’ Update

20 Minute Movement – Walk to School Week’

Walk to school week was an integral part of our 20 Minute Movement campaign in May. It was a great success with 34 primary schools in the district taking part!

We asked parents/carers to try and take an active way of travel to school every day. We also asked parents/carers who usually drive their children to school to consider joining in by parking a little further away and maybe walking at least some of the way.

Walking, cycling and scooting to school are great ways for children to start the day and energises them ready for a day at school.

Watch our short film to see some of the benefits be inspired to take a more active way of travel to school!

20 Minute Movement - Phase 3

20 Minute Movement - Phase 3

Phases 1 and 2 of the 20 Minute Movement have been really successful helping adults, children, schools and workplaces to be more active and now we have launched Phase 3 aimed at helping older adults in Bradford district to move more.

Look out for our new leaflets which offer lots of information about the benefits of walking and how to find local walks and groups near you that cater for all abilities. The leaflets are being delivered to public buildings across the district, including libraries, community buildings and leisure centres.

However, walking is a great activity for everyone, whatever their age or ability – you can find all of this information on our website.

Whatever your reason for walking, it’s easy to do, free and can benefit your health and wellbeing. You can fit walking into your life whether it’s walking round the garden, a short stroll to the shops or a countryside hike. Walking is an easy form of exercise to take up and maintain.

For walking to count towards your recommended level of physical activity, you should walk at a pace that increases your breathing speed and heart rate.
