Spring Bank Holiday Events and Activities

Adventure Activity Sessions 

Doe Park Water Activities Centre

Half-Day Family Climb

Half-day sessions for family and friends groups (at least one adult must attend). Climb the rocks at Ilkley and learn new climbing skills. No experience necessary and all specialist equipment provided. Suitable for ages 9+. Price £15 (£12 with a Bradford Leisure Card).

Mountain Biking Days

Must be able to ride a bike confidently (not learn to ride sessions). All mountain bike equipment will be provided and you will follow some fantastic routes. Suitable for ages 9-16. Price £35 (£28 with a Bradford Leisure Card)

Half-Day Family Mountain Biking

Half-day sessions for family and friends groups (at least one adult must attend). All participants must be able to ride a bike confidently (not learn to ride sessions). All mountain bike equipment will be provided and you will follow some fantastic routes. . Suitable for ages 9+. Price £15 (£12 with a Bradford Leisure Card)

Multi-Activity Day

A fun-filled day of outdoor activities. Ride local bike trails, climb and shoot some arrows. Suitable for ages 9-16. Price £35 (£28 with Bradford Leisure Card

Swing and Splash Day

Half day on the water, kayaking and raft building, and half day on the high ropes. Suitable for 9-16 years. Price £35 (£28 with Bradford Leisure Card).

Spring into summer - Peel Park

Saturday 3 June 12pm-4pm Spring Into Summer Fun Day

Join us for the opening of the new Peel Park Youth & Community Hub. Lots of FREE activities, including inflatables, a 40ft climbing wall, boxing, cycling, dance and play sessions.

The RSPCA are running a dog show at the event with 12 categories to enter your dog into (£2 per dog per category)

The emergency services will be present at the event with demos and lots of equipment for young people to look at and mini uniforms to try on.

Bring a picnic or grab a snack from the Peelers' Café.

Celebrate Spring at Bradford Museums & Galleries

Monday 29 May 11am-3pm - Bradford Industrial Museum Spring Bank Holiday Street Party. FREE

Join our street party for a post-Coronation spring bank celebration. There'll be live music, Victorian street games and a FREE drink and a slice of cake (while stock lasts!). More information here.

Tuesday 30 May 11am-2pm - Cliffe Castle Museum Mary Anning and the Pholiderpeton. FREE 

Meet pioneering palaeontologist and fossil collector Mary Anning whilst she meets our Pholiderpeton for the first time. Take part in a dig and fossil identification activities. Read nature inspired books in the story corner in the Bracewell Smith Hall. Grab a spring trail and explore the museum. More information here.

Wednesday 31 May 10.30am-3pm - Bradford Industrial Museum Storytelling with Richard O’ Neill. FREE

Meet internationally acclaimed storyteller and author Richard O’Neill as he tells the story of Polonious, The Pit Pony, plus others from his collection of children’s books. Richard is from a traditional, nomadic, Romani Gypsy family. Make some of the characters from Richard’s stories in our peg doll making workshop. The Literacy Trust have kindly donated books for a treasure hunt - search for a book voucher hidden in the museum and collect your FREE book from reception. Friday 2 June 11am-2pm - Bolling Hall Spring Planting. FREE

Plant herbs in the kitchen gardens with the BMG Volunteer Heritage Gardeners before making your own lavender bag to take home. Find out about how lavender was traditionally used at Bolling Hall in Tudor times. Read nature inspired books in the story corner in the Cold Kitchen. Grab a spring trail and explore the museum. Fun Day - Seymour Street Recreation Ground

Join us for a Community Fun Day with FREE information stalls, sports, activities and taster personal safety sessions. There will also be inflatables and fairground rides (there'll be a cost for these). The event will also include stalls selling food and products or bring your own picnic.

Family-friendly event celebrating pooches with a light-hearted dog “show” and prizes, pet products, chipping and stalls as well as info sharing to provide a fun yet informative day for local dog owners.

Asia Exhibition 

Asia Exhibition

Cartwright Hall until 22 December 2023. FREE

This gallery displays items from the collection of objects Bradford District Museums look after. It focuses on the four Asian countries we have the most items from: China, Japan, Pakistan and India.

These are things that have either been donated to the museum, or that the museum has applied for funding grants to purchase. They are beautiful and interesting arts and textiles that give us a glimpse into the culture they come from. More here.


Changing Shapes Of Fashion - Exhibition

Changing shape of fashion

Cliffe Castle, Keighley until 6 November 2023. FREE

This display showcases a selection of dresses from the collections of Bradford District Museums and Galleries, which were recently displayed at Bankfield Museum, as part of an exhibition looking at fashion during the life of Anne Lister (1791 – 1840). Anne wrote detailed diaries, which gave an insight into her life as a landowner, business woman, intrepid traveller and lesbian.

These costumes highlight the changes in women’s fashion during this period and the introduction of pattern and colour. We discuss the technological advancements and the hidden dangers of fashion! More here.


Walking in the Bradford district

Candlemass Eve Walk

Wednesday 31 May 11am Over The Hill and Far Away 9 mile (14.4km) difficult linear walk. FREE

Meet Paul Mawson at Wells Road Car Park, Ilkley (adjacent to the cattle grid) for a challenging walk from Ilkley to Bingley. This walk passes through the Rocky Valley and Horncliffe Well. The walk includes a challenging climb, at the beginning, and some tricky paths. Return by public transport (pay your own fare).Please bring a packed lunch.

Saltaire Arts Trail 2023 takes place on the Spring Bank Holiday weekend (Sat 27 – Mon 29 May).
