St George's Day - Sunday 23 April

City Hall with St. George's flags flying outside

In celebration of St George's Day - Bradford City Hall clock tower will be lit up in red and white and England flags will be flying in Centenary Square and across the district. 

  • Bradford Scouts St George’s Day Parade and Service - Sunday 23 April. The parade leaves Centenary Square at 11.30am to arrive at Bradford Cathedral for the church service. After the service (1.30pm) the parade will return along the same route to Centenary Square, to do a march past and salute to the Lord Mayor of Bradford on the City Hall steps.
  • Keighley Scouts St George's Day Parade Sunday 23 April
  • Keighley Town Council St George's Day events Sunday 23 April Airedale Shopping Centre 11am-4pm for a St George’s Day celebration. Free activities and fun for all the family including face painting, balloon modelling, a Punch and Judy Show, arts and crafts and stilt walkers. More information here.
  • 69th Bradford South Scout Group Saint George's Day Celebration of Scouting Sunday 23 April 11am-1pm  in Harold Park - Low Moor.  Including a renewal of Scout Promises, a parade, fun activities, stalls and obstacle course. More here.

  • Guest poet Leon The Pig Farmer - Manchester dwelling Yorkshireman Beat Poet with a little more than a lot to say. An ex-serviceman who began writing verse to help him deal with a PTSD diagnosis.
  • Sully Lad Preview. The first ever public preview of the short film 'Sully Lad'. Filmed locally during lockdown. Produced and directed by local lad and close personal friend of Sully, Mickey Thompson, who uses his poem the film is inspired by to narrate the scenes.
  • Open Mic Session - Sign up on the night if local,  but if you're travelling far then email sipickles@hotmail.co.uk to reserve your slot.

Cherry Blossom Festival

Cherry blossom at Bolling Hall

Celebrate St George’s Day at a fabulous Cherry Blossom Festival Sunday 23 April 11am and 3pm at Bolling Hall. FREE.

  • Plant your own bulb in a pot you've decorated 
  • Face painting
  • Have your photo taken with the Blossom Flower Fairy and join in with a fairy dance.
  • Make a handcrafted tissue blossom 
  • Join in a flower themed children’s story-time in the library.
  • A balloon modeller - flowers in celebration of spring and dragons and swords in celebration of St George’s Day
  • The Rainbow Morris Dancers performing 
  • Meet Frances Tempest, Lady of the House, as she takes them on a tour of her home, the museum!
  • Samosas, tea and cake available in the museum’s ‘Cold Kitchen’.

Vaisakhi Parade

Vaisakhi Parade

Witness this spectacular and colourful parade celebrating one of the most important dates for Sikhs around the world. Sunday 23 April 10am and 3pm in BD1 & BD3.

There will be road closures between 10am and 4pm. Roads will be closed on a rolling basis for the shortest period of time to allow the parade to pass safely through the streets. Roads will be reopened as soon as the parade has passed safely through the area. All times are approximate.

  • 10.30am Starting at the Gurdwara Guru Nanak Dev Ji – Wakefield Rd/Usher Street. Travelling on Bowling Back Lane, A6177, New Lane and Kershaw Street to the Gurdwara Shri Guru Ravidas Maharaj Ji on Thornbury Street at 11.15am.
  • 11.25am back along Kershaw Street, New Lane, A6177 and Bowling Back Lane and turn on to Hammerton Street, Edderthorpe Street and Ventnor Street to the Gurdwara Guru Gobind Singh Ji at 12.10pm.
  • 12.30pm along Joseph Street and Garnett Street to arrive at Gurdawra Singh Sabha on Grant Street at 12.45pm.
  • 12.55pm along Garnett Street on to New Otley Road, A658 and Cliffe Road arriving at the Ramgharia Gurdwara on Bolton Road at 1.25pm.
  • 1.35pm along Bolton Road, Church Bank and Peckover Street to the Gurdwara Amrit Parchar Dharmik Diwan at 2.05pm.
  • 2.15pm along the A650 Shipley Airedale Road and A650 Wakefield Road turning on to Prospect Street, Hall Lane and Usher Street to arrive back at the Gurdwara Guru Nanak Dev Ji at approximately 3pm.

National Walking Month

Candlemass Eve Walk

May is National Walking Month, there are some great walks around the district to get you warmed up.

Bradford Cathedral - Has gathered together walk, trails and pilgrimages including the ‘Tranquillity Trail’ which is just over 5k and takes in some peaceful areas of the city in a circular route just north of the Cathedral. More here

The FREE to attend festival promises to be a lively celebration of local culture, featuring the very best of the district’s food, drink and entertainment scenes.

Join us in City Park for mouth-watering food stalls, crafty markets, up-beat, family-friendly live entertainment and a kid-friendly area jam-packed full of activities to keep the little ones buzzing.

Centenary Square will play host to some of the best bars, brewers and beverage wizards in the district, with live DJ sets running later into the evening.

Enjoy a great day for all the family at the Bradford Super Sopbox Challenge Sunday 30 April. 

Watch the brave soapbox racers as they hurtle down a huge ramp. It’ll be a great day out for all the family with continual commentary and all the action visible on large format screens. Watch out for our celebrity guest! You’ll be able to meet our favourite champion racer, Sir Sidney Cartalot too! Memorial Service for those affected by violent crime

Knife Angel

Bradford Cathedral 27 April 7.30pm

As The Knife Angel, having stood in Centenary Square for Anti-Violence month, leaves the district, we invite any victims or those affected by violent crime of all kinds to gather for a time of reflection and remembrance.

Bradford Cathedral and Fountains Church in partnership with West Yorkshire Police and Bradford Council will lead a short memorial service with an opportunity to remember those who have lost their lives as well as those traumatised by violence against them. There will be sharing of stories, times of reflection and a commitment to hope for change. More here.

A mysterious cardboard craft has crash landed right here in the local area! As local people arrive to a sight of a cardboard wreckage from outer space, everyone is wondering who could possibly have been flying it. 

Come along to this live, interactive performance and welcome two mysterious visitors from a hidden corner of the galaxy. Can you help them find their way around the local area, mend their broken spaceship and finally find a place to call home?
