Safeguarding updates
From our recent communications we have mentioned that the continuum of need and risk identification tool was being reviewed and updated. The new version is now available on the Safer Bradford website.
The main changes in the document are:
- The new logo – Bradford District Safeguarding Children Partnership.
- The removal of all references to “Signs of Safety” and now introducing a “Restorative Approach” in all work with children, young people and their families – see pages 19 and 20.
Find it here : Continuum of Need and Risk Identification Tool
Following on from the launch of the Practitioners Advice and Referral Line 01274 433999 on 15th November 2022, the Children's Portal has now also been launched. The Children’s Portal is for the Police, Ambulance Service (YAS) and the night time economy to share information and /or make a referral to Children’s Services. It is also to be used for practitioners to submit documentation relating to a child or young person following a conversation with one of the Consultant Social Workers - portal for professionals.
The priority remains for Practitioners to utilise the Practitioner Advice and Referral Line during day time hours
FREE telephone line 0800 9530966 for members of the public to use to talk to Children’s Services about concerns about a child. This can be advertised to your parents and carers who will also have a section on the Children’s Portal to share information as well as to access lots of useful information - portal for parents or carers

Day Nurseries & Pre School owners
Just a polite reminder to all owners that if your email addresses on our data base is the main contact, it is your responsibility to share important / key information with your managers and staff. We are highlighting this due to a couple of recent scenarios where the managers didn’t receive important safeguarding information. If you would like to have more than one email address please email Quality.Support@bradford.gov.uk and we will add it to your record.

Ofsted’s 2023 Priorities for Early Years
A new post, “Ofsted’s 2023 priorities for early years” has just been published on the Ofsted: early years blog.
Before looking ahead to what 2023 will hold for the early years sector, it’s worth reflecting on the year that has just passed. Ofsted ended the year with the publication of their Annual Report, which provides an overview of what their inspections found, their research, and identifies important themes and potential challenges.
You can read the full report here and the early years section here.
Ofsted Early Years Curriculum Roadshow for Childminders - webinar
This webinar explains about the curriculum for communication and language in the early years. Also discussed is what Ofsted have learned from their education recovery research about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children’s learning and development. The webinar is part of a programme of national roadshows for early years practitioners. It is designed specifically for childminders who, because they're often lone workers caring for children, cannot always attend roadshows in person.

Foundation Years update
The Princess of Wales launches "Shaping Us" Campaign to raise awareness of the unique importance of early childhood
“Shaping Us” is a major new awareness-raising campaign from The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, which aims to increase public understanding of the crucial importance of the first five years of life.
Spearheaded by The Princess of Wales, with support from a range of high-profile figures from the world of media, music, science and sports, the campaign officially launched on Tuesday 31st January with the release of a short animation film.
In the film, we see how a little girl, Layla, develops from pregnancy to age five and how she is shaped by her interactions with the people and environment around her. It will appear on Piccadilly Lights at Piccadilly Circus and will be screened in cinemas across the UK from Friday. You can watch the film here.
The campaign launches as the Centre for Early Childhood released new data on public understanding of child development which shows around one in three (36%) adults report knowing just a little or nothing about how children develop in their early childhood. The long-term ambition is to transform public awareness of this issue over the coming months and years.
