Mockingbird foster care in Bradford

Fostering in Bradford hopes you will find this newsletter useful and full of information to help you decide if you want to be involved in the Mockingbird model of foster care.

We are starting 2 new Mockingbird groups, known as constellations, in 2023 and are now looking for families to get involved as the paid hub home carer or as constellation families.

If you want to know more about any of the roles, come along to a session in January, watch the videos, or give Vickie Oldroyd, the Mockingbird lead officer, a ring on 0795 117 1986.

The Mockingbird family model of foster care is structured around the support and relationships an extended family provides. The model nurtures the relationships between children, young people and foster families supporting them to build a resilient and caring community.

Watch this short video from The Fostering Network to hear about what it's like to be a hub home carer and a satellite family.

Hub home carers - we need you!

image containing the words we need you, you and you and an arrow pointing off to the side

We want to have 2 more constellations up and running this year, so that means we need 2 new hub home carers.

Could it be you? Are you thinking about it?

Here's a little about what you need to know:

You need to be an experienced level 2 foster carer to become a hub home carer. You will support the children in the constellation to feel they are part of an extended family by hosting events, both in and out of your home, providing sleepovers in your home, building relationships with other children in the hub. You will also mentor the carers in your constellation, hold monthly meetings in your home and organise events and outings to build relationships with them.

You must have 2 spare beds - 1 in a bedroom available for planned sleepovers and on the same floor as your bedroom; and the other bed can be in a spare bedroom or other suitable space that is safe, has a door to close, room for a blow up mattress (as a minimum) and on the same floor as your bedroom.

Mockingbird - a really big family
