Healthy Minds

Healthy Minds

Healthy Minds is the doorway to mental health and wellbeing services across Bradford, Airedale, Craven and Wharfedale.

We all need to look after our minds as well as our bodies to stay well. Mental health problems can be anything from feeling down, worried or stressed out to more serious, diagnosed conditions.

The Healthy Minds website is a directory of groups, activities and counselling services which can help you keep your mind healthy. There are hundreds of support services ranging from informal meet-ups where you can make new friends to professional counselling. There are also articles explaining why you may be feeling unwell and what you can do to feel better.

Whether you have a diagnosed illness, are concerned about a loved one or just want to learn how to look after your own mind better, Healthy Minds is there to open the door to support and advice when you need it.

Safe Spaces

Safe Spaces

Safe Spaces is the new crisis support service for children, young people and adults who are in mental health distress in Bradford District and Craven.

This could be severe anxiety or panic attacks, suicidal thoughts, intense depression or feelings of disassociation. It offers same-day support for anyone aged seven and over who needs urgent help with their emotional and mental wellbeing.

You can access one-to-one, same day support over the phone or you can visit The Bradford Hub which is open 12noon til 2.30am every day offering same-day, one-to-one support

The children and young people’s overnight service is open every Monday and Tuesday, from 6pm until 10am the next day. It’s for anyone aged 7-17 who is struggling with their mental health and needs a homely place to stay for the night. A trained crisis support worker will be on hand to make sure you are safe, calm and looked after.

A second hub will open in Keighley in autumn, and crisis cafes will be held across the district from October.

To access one-to-one support from Safe Spaces, call the NHS First Response helpline on 0800 952 1181 and ask for Safe Spaces. Lines are open 24 hours a day.

Can you give the gift of time?

Can you give the gift of time?

Mind in Bradford’s Community Companions service is looking for volunteers who can spend one hour per week to help ease someone’s loneliness and reduce their social isolation.

The project led by Mind aims to tackle loneliness, isolation, and depression in adults aged 18+ and is available across Bradford, Craven, Airedale and Wharfedale.

David joined Mind in Bradford as a volunteer befriender a few months ago after struggling with his own mental health and wanting to help others. He's since struck up a meaningful friendship with his befriendee and never looked back. “Even helping just one person a week, they might not see anybody all week but that one phone call or visit makes a massive difference to them.”

Volunteers will need to offer one hour per week to meet face-to-face in the local community for a walk or attend a local group to help with loneliness and reduce people’s social isolation.
