Only 30 days until the Bradford Clean Air Zone is live on the 26 September 2022.
From 26 September 2022, there will be a daily charge to drive into the zone for vehicles that do not meet the required emission standards. However, the charges will not apply to some vehicles, including passenger cars and motorbikes. Through the use of a daily charge for entering the zone, we aim to discourage older, dirtier vehicles from entry.
Passenger cars will not be charged, it doesn’t matter if you use them for work or live outside the District.
Use the government website www.gov.uk/clean-air-zones to find out if your vehicle will be charged for driving into the Bradford Clean Air Zone, encourage friends, family and colleagues to check their vehicles too.
With only a month to go until the launch on 26 September 2022 many Bradford businesses and transport operators have already taken advantage of grants to upgrade their vehicles and have started to use cleaner vehicles to drive in and around our District.
92% of private hire vehicles are now compliant giving us one of the cleanest taxi fleets in the Country, over 370 buses are now compliant ensuring all scheduled and tendered services meet Clean Air Zone standard with 33 new electric buses expected to start running on busy routes next year. On top of this £8.4m in grants have been allocated to assist businesses to upgrade over 20% of all lorries registered in the District and over 3,400 grants have been applied for in the funding categories (HGV, Bus, Coach, LGV, Minibus and Taxis.)
We hope that every resident and visitor to the District can breathe clean air, parts of the City are already starting to show the improvements in air quality that will help us to reach the Government mandated legal levels of air quality in the quickest time possible.
Any revenue from the introduction of the Bradford CAZ will be reinvested in further programmes in the district to reduce harmful emissions. This may include support for zero emission buses, further help for residents and businesses to upgrade their vehicles, the development of hydrogen in the district and support for schools to reduce emissions in their areas.
If you are unsure if you will be charged to drive in the Bradford Clean Air Zone call our Clean Air Zone team who will be happy to provide you factual information about the status of your vehicle and will let you know if you are eligible for a grant or an exemption. Telephone 01274 435533.

Once again the programme is designed to connect a further 25 Bradford-based content creators of all kinds with film and TV industry experts who can help them develop their career journeys, build contacts and secure paid work.

Temporary library to open in Baildon
Baildon Library will open on Monday, 5 September in its temporary premises, the former Martin's newsagents.
Ultimately the library will move into new permanent premises in the former Baildon Social Club. We have purchased the former social club and work to convert it into a modern library and offices for Baildon Town Council is soon to get underway.
The new permanent library is expected to open in 2023. The move to the temporary site ensures the town is able to retain a library service during this period.
As the temporary site is smaller than the current library there will be a smaller stock available of the most popular and used items.
A hosepipe ban came in to force 26 August
A hosepipe ban for all Yorkshire Water customers came in to force yesterday (26 August).
Although there’s been some patchy rain over parts of Yorkshire in the last few weeks, Yorkshire Water reservoir levels are still feeling the impact of much drier than average rainfall since the beginning of March.
During the hosepipe ban, please don’t use your hosepipe to:
- Water a garden or plants on domestic or other non-commercial premises
- Clean a private motor-vehicle or private leisure boat
- Fill or maintain a domestic swimming or paddling pool, hot tub, ornamental fountain or pond unless there are fish or other aquatic animals that are being reared or kept in captivity
- Draw water for domestic recreational use
- Clean walls, or windows, of domestic premises
- Clean paths or patios
- Clean other artificial outdoor surfaces
You can still undertake the above activities without using a hosepipe if you use tap water from a bucket or watering can; or use water that is not sourced from taps such as grey water, rainwater from a water butt, or a private borehole, for example.
