City of Bradford Artistic Swimming
A multi-award winning Artistic Swimming Club has arrived in Bradford, training at Shipley Pool, after becoming accredited with Swim England as part of the elite squad at City of Bradford Swimming Club.
Now called City of Bradford Artistic Swimming, it used to be known as Halifax Synchronised Swimming and trained at Halifax Pool for over 20 years but when that pool was closed in 2020, the club had to move.
They will now be training at Shipley, their new permanent home, on Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons and are looking to rebuild their club with the aim of improving on their already impressive track record. The pool will provide deep enough water to train in and safely carry out their complicated moves, lifts and jumps.
There hasn’t been a synchronised swimming club in Bradford for over 20 years and the club were welcomed to Shipley for their first training session by the committee and members of City of Bradford Swimming Club, local Shipley Councillor, Kevin Warnes and Ian Keighley, Bradford Aquatics Elite Training Programme Manager.
The club are looking to welcome new club members from 3rd September. Any juniors who are competent swimmers and who are interested in joining a beginner’s class can message Head Coach, Charlotte Hughes, via their Facebook page - City of Bradford Artistic Swimming Club.
Bradford for Everyone: Building inclusive, cohesive and resilient communities event
A special event on Monday, 18 July, demonstrated how well the Bradford District lives, learns and works together.
The event at the National Media Museum revealed key findings from the three-year Government funded integrated communities; Bradford for Everyone programme. The Bradford for Everyone programme has been led by the Stronger Communities Team at Bradford Council and is overseen by a wide range of partners such as VCS, faith, private and statutory services across the district who care about cohesion and integration and see it being an essential to ‘getting on, getting, along, getting involved and feeling safe’.
The event premiered two films that tell the story of our innovative programme and showcase the voices of some of the inspirational people from across the district with whom we worked. Key learnings were highlighted, including some of the key campaigns such as Shared Values - promoting respect, protect, care and share to innovative initiatives that reward people for doing social good, managing difficult community conversations, to large scale projects, such as the Linking Network which connects two different schools over an academic year.
