Hello everyone, we hope you are all keeping well and for those of you with plans for the Jubilee bank holiday weekend we hope you enjoy the celebrations. We have also included the Jubilee events taking place across the district below. 

Initially we have a quick update regarding our recent SEND inspection we would like to share with you. We have received the draft Ofsted letter, and publication of the final letter is expected shortly. Thanks again for all those involved in the SEND inspection, we will update you as soon as we can.

SEND Review – green paper

The SEND Review sets out government’s proposals in a green paper, for the changes they want to make to the special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and alternative provision system. 

There are a number of versions available, including an easy read version and one for children and young people, which can be found here.

Education, Health and Care Plan - Facebook Live

The PFBA are running a Facebook Live EHCP Question & Answer event on 20 June at 10.30 am. Parents can join live with any questions, or submit them before the day, email supportnews@pfba.org.uk

The session will be recorded so it can be watched later. It is being held in the PFBA’s private group, and to join this, please go to PFBA group | Facebook


one minute guides

Easy read one minute guides  

There are currently sixteen one minute guides, covering a range of topics including two recent guides on masking in schools and exclusions.

The aim of these is to give you simple easy to read guides with useful information that can be read in very little time. They are all available on the Local Offer website here and in a printable format. New guides:

Masking in Schools

Many parents have spoken to us about their children masking in schools and the challenging behaviors they experience outside of school. To help address this across the partnership AWARE and the PFBA produced a report to share with SEN Services via the SEND Strategic Partnership Board. A fuller action plan is being developed along with a specific guide for schools and professionals.


Jubilee

Platinum Jubilee

The Bradford district is gearing up to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen's Platinum Jubilee with activities and events. 

Bradford Great Jubilee Tea 2 June 6.30pm to 9.45pm.

Event with free cake, food and entertainment building up to the lighting of the beacon at around 9.30pm-9.45pm

Family fun in parks 2-5 June 11am-3pm

Terrific Twos

Could you be missing out on 15 hours of free childcare for your two-year-old?

Bradford Council has just launched a campaign called The Terrific Two's aimed to remind parents of eligible children aged two that they can access 15 hours of free child care and how they can register for the summer term. 

As part of the campaign, ten new 2-year-old Early Education Access and Take up workers will provide support and information to families. Watch out for them out and about across the Bradford district and do come along and say hello and have a chat.

Find out if your child is eligible for 15 hours of free childcare by visiting www.bradford.gov.uk/terrifictwos or speak to a local family hub, local registered nursery or pre-school and discuss your child’s needs. You can also phone Bradford Council on 01274 437503.


SORM

SORM Studios into employment group visit the Houses of Parliament

The SORM studios into Employment group took a trip to London this month to promote the vote for people with disabilities in the run up to the elections. The group went inside the Houses of Parliament and one of the young people spoke on behalf of the group about equality. SORM have been working to promote life skills and employment opportunities with young people with SEN in Bradford to find out more about their work click here and for more information on preparation for adulthood click here.


Autism event

Feedback from the World Autism Day event

We had some wonderful feedback from families about the AWARE informative open day event held at Bradford City Football Club.

EHCP

Navigating the online application process – EHCP's 

If you are starting to apply for an EHCP and need help completing the online application, SENDIASS have produced a helpful guide on how to use the online portal and what questions parents need to answer. To access the EHCP assessment resources click here for the EHC Assessment – Online Portal

If you are a professional working with parent/carers please can you promote these resource to any parent/carers who are starting the EHCP process.

Barnardo's SENDIASS service 

Bradford SENDIASS provide information advice and support for SEN families of children aged from birth to 25 within the district. They have just completed their quarterly report for how their service is working. 

83% families confirmed it was easy to get in touch with SENDIASS.

83% families found the information, advice and support they received very helpful.

young peoples views

Children and young people’s voice survey - feedback by 15 June

As part of our Transformation Projects, work has started on ensuring children and young people’s voices are heard within our SEND work. To help this work we would like to gather the views of young people from across the district to see how well they feel involved in the plans and provision in place for them.
