National Offer Day for children starting primary school
Tuesday (19 April) was National Offer Day for primary schools when parents and carers found out where their children will be starting school in September.
In the district, nearly all children will start at one of their families’ preferred schools.
Of the 6,902 applications received from parents and carers with children ready to start in reception class this autumn, 91 per cent have been offered a place at the school they listed as their top preferred school, and 98 per cent have been offered a place at one of their top three preferred schools.
Any family that has not been offered a place at one of their preferred schools has the right of appeal to an independent panel. You can learn more about appeals on our website here

Ilkley Lido opening
Ilkley Lido will make a splash as it officially re-opens early this Saturday, 23 April. With spring well under way and warmer days promised, swimmers are invited to take the opportunity for a dip during these opening times:
- Monday to Friday 7.30am-8.30am and 2.30pm-6pm
- Saturday and Sunday 10am -2pm
If the weather warms up significantly the opening times will be extended and after the Spring Bank Holiday opening times will revert to the usual summer time timetable. Updates will be published on our website and Bradford Swimming’s Facebook page.
The Bradford Council run venue is one of the top ten open air pools in the country. The Lido, built in 1935, has a 45-metre stretch of shallow water and slide for children, a fountain pool and a lagoon-shaped pool for swimmers. It is surrounded by a grassy area for relaxing on sunny days and has far-reaching views across Ilkley Moor. There is also a cafe, tennis courts, putting green and bowling green.
Supporting pregnant women to access stop smoking services in the Bradford district
Are you willing to take part in a short survey to help identify how we can support pregnant women in Bradford to access stop smoking services? If you are pregnant, currently smoke, live in the Bradford District and are aged 18 or over we would love to hear from you. We want to find out what might help or prevent pregnant women accessing the stop smoking support available to them. The survey is anonymous and you can part by visiting the survey page. It will take about 10 minutes to complete.

Footpaths, parks and greenspaces upgraded across the Bradford district
Our workers have been upgrading and repairing public paths, parks and greenspaces across the district which experienced higher levels of use over the Covid lockdown.
The £250,000 allocated by us as part of our Covid Recovery Strategy has been used to repair some of the additional wear and tear that footpaths, parks and other outdoor spaces experienced over the last two years.
Our Parks Department has carried out work to repair paths and resurface grass in the following parks across the Bradford district - Victoria Park in Wyke, Harold Park in Royds, Lister Park in Manningham, Devonshire Park in Keighley, Foster Park in Denholme, Horton Park and Addingham Bowling Green, Eccleshill Recreation Ground and Peel Park.
Work has also been carried out by our Countryside and Rights of Way team including resurfacing work at carparks and on access tracks at Penistone Hill Country Park in Haworth, resurfacing and drainage work to the bridleway at Shipley Glen and resurfacing of routes and new steps at Ilkley Moor, Hebers Ghyll and the Dales Way in Ilkley.
The Countryside and Rights of Way team have also been responsible for improvements and repairs to gates, stiles and benches on footpaths and rights of way across the district.
Further improvements are planned for this year.
