Have your say on Bradford pharmacies

People across the Bradford district are being asked to take part in a survey which will help assess if there are the right number of local pharmacies in the right places within our communities.

Bradford District's Health & Wellbeing Board is undertaking a Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment, to assess the current and future needs of local and will be used to inform commissioning decisions by local authorities, NHS England and Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs).

The short questionnaire is anonymous and confidential and anyone who uses local pharmaceutical services is invited to comment.

The survey is on the Council’s website on its consultation page.

The deadline for completion is 11 February 2022. The feedback will help develop a draft Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment which will then be available for public consultation in 2022.

Green Street

Green street

Green Street is a Retail Sector Council-backed initiative that is coming to our city, dedicated to supporting small and independent retailers.

Not to be confused with BD1’s geographical Green Street, this “green” initiative is now looking for 30 business pioneers who want to enjoy the benefits of offering planet-friendly shopping and hospitality, all supported by Green Street experts.

The programme is completely free to join and will help you lead the way in sustainable retail and customer experiences. Consumers increasingly want to buy from sustainable businesses and they’re turning to those brands that make it easy for them to buy with a green conscience.

With the help of the first 30 pioneers from Bradford, Green Street will then roll out a UK-wide movement, shaping our high streets and making a positive difference to small businesses, their profits and the planet.

Bradford Council leader shortlisted for a Heart for the Arts Award

The leader of Bradford Council, Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe has been shortlisted for an award in the 'Best Arts Champion – Councillor' category of the Heart for the Arts Awards 2022 being run by the National Campaign for the Arts.

The awards celebrate the unsung heroes of Local Authorities who are championing the arts against all odds.

Our approach in seeing 'Culture' as one of the four key pillars in the district's post-covid economic recovery plan, has been the strongest possible endorsement of the arts sector in the Bradford district.

Under Councillor Hinchcliffe's leadership, the Bradford district has seen the development of a Cultural Place Partnership, the establishment of a Creative People and Places organisation, the creation of Bradford Producing Hub and a 10-year Cultural Strategy (Culture Is Our Plan), the formation of the new 300-member strong Cultural Voice for the independent arts sector, a new Screen Strategy (As Seen on Screen), leading relationships with Channel 4, as well as the development of the City of Culture 2025 bid.

Councillor Hinchcliffe has championed a recently expanded grants programme from the Council, which has widened the number of Regular Funded Organisations from 11 to 24.

Public asked to have their say on Shipley town centre transformation

Shipley

Residents and businesses are being invited to have their say on more detailed plans to transform Shipley town centre into a thriving place to visit, shop and enjoy.

As part of the Shipley Streets for People programme, We have revealed proposals to transform Shipley’s outdoor marketplace with significant green spaces, natural play installations for children and a new public square for events. Two versions have been published for feedback including the option for a canopy covering the events space to allow for year-round activities.

This follows a public engagement exercise held last year on the Shipley Streets for People programme. Feedback from this consultation was gathered and used to help draw up plans that aim to improve Shipley town centre with a focus on Market Square.

Tree for Every Child project starts 2022 with largescale planting in schools

Tree for every child

Our Tree for Every Child (TfEC) project is starting the New Year at full speed ahead with tree planting taking place in 20 schools, starting this week with East Morton Primary School.

Fruit Works Co-operative, one of our partner organisations in the project will be helping pupils, staff and volunteers to plant 140 fruit trees and 140 soft fruit bushes, over the next few months, at 20 school sites across the district. Fruit Works is engaging with 650 school children through this project, who are now all more aware of climate action and, along with future pupils at their schools, will enjoy the benefits of having fruit trees and bushes on their school grounds.

Yesterday, Fruit Works helped children from Year 4, staff and local volunteers to plant fruit trees and shrubs in the grounds of East Morton Primary.

Opportunities open at Bradford’s new Darley Street Market

We are inviting potential retailers to register their interest in becoming a selected trader for the city’s new £23m flagship market.

The redevelopment of Bradford’s new Darley Street Market is now well under way and to illustrate the offer, the council has launched a new leasing brochure.

The glossy publication shows interested traders what the market will look like, its facilities, how it will operate and floor plans describing each of the three trading floors including non-food, fresh and hot food and drink.

Plans for the adjoining open-air market square are also featured.

Strategically located in heart of the city’s central shopping area, the new Darley Street Market has been designed to be a light, airy and modern retail space and is packed with energy and environment saving features including smart heating, lighting and ventilation systems, rainwater capture technologies and green transport facilities.

The market will have three trading floors and an underground basement for deliveries and waste recycling.

Fresh produce will be sold on the upper ground floor and top floor will house an open plan food court which will trade into the evenings to support the local night-time economy.

The ground floor will contain non-food offerings.

There will be high quality spaces for 13 hot food and drink vendors with seating for 530 customers, an outdoor viewing balcony with seating and a stage for day and evening entertainment.

The new market square will boast eight large umbrellas for outdoor trading and seating for 66 customers.

The outdoor space with capacity for up to 500 people has been designed to draw crowds from the surrounding area by hosting a range of cultural and entertainment events.
