New COVID-19 control measures added to Plan B
New measures were announced in late December and early January to reduce the spread of COVID-19 over the winter:
- People who tested positive or have symptoms can now stop self-isolating after 7 days instead of 10 days if they get 2 negative lateral flow test results on day 6 and 7
- Children aged 12 to 15 can now get their second vaccine dose after 12 weeks of their first dose. For more information, see our vaccine webpage
- Asymptomatic individuals who test positive with a lateral flow test do not need to take a confirmatory PCR anymore and should start self-isolating immediately. This change reflects the high rates of COVID what reduces the chances of false positive results. For more information, visit our testing webpage.
- However, people will need to take a PCR test (to get an NHS Test and Trace ID number) in order to apply for a Test and Trace Support Payment.
The key measures introduced in December in response to emergence of the Omicron variant are still in place:
- an acceleration of the booster vaccination programme
- new isolation rules for contacts of COVID-19
- the introduction of the NHS COVID Pass
Standard safety measures such as ventilation and testing if showing symptoms, remain important.
Get vaccinated as part of the NHS ‘Bag a Booster’ campaign
Eligible people in Bradford district and Craven are being urged to protect themselves against the symptoms of COVID-19 this weekend – whether it’s to have their first or second dose or to ‘bag a booster’, as infection rates continue to soar in West Yorkshire.
A range of walk-in clinics and pop-up services will be available across the district, to help make it as easy as possible for people to get the vital jabs.
These include The Broadway, Sangat Community Centre and Airedale Shopping Centre. Families and households, including those with children aged 12 and over will be welcomed at St Luke’s Hospital.
All doses of the COVID-19 vaccinations have been shown to be crucial in protecting people against the Omicron variant, which is continuing to spread rapidly across the country. Although evidence suggests the variant is not as severe as originally feared, the numbers of people being infected is leading to an increase in hospital admissions and disruption to public services in general.
Details of local walk-in clinics are available on Bradford District and Craven CCG’s website at www.bit.ly/CovidVaccineBDC or the walk-in site finder on www.nhs.uk.
Or if people prefer, they can book an appointment at a convenient time and place at www.nhs.uk/covidvaccine or by calling 119.
