Cultural organisations get three years of funding from new grants

Twenty-four cultural organisations – ranging from art and theatre groups to literature, heritage and broadcasting – have been awarded grants by us to grow their businesses and help to bring arts and culture to all parts of the district.

The new Arts, Culture and Heritage – Regular Funded Grants 2022-25, forms part of Culture is Our Plan www.cultureisourplan.co.uk – a ten-year vision to enhance the wealth of arts, heritage and culture in the Bradford District, to bring it to a wider range of society and to support the many organisations working to realise this ambition.

The grants range from £5000 to £30,000 per year and will start in April 2022 and end in March 2025. They aim to provide three years of funding to support the development, growth and resilience of not-for-profit arts, cultural and heritage organisations as we build towards UK City of Culture in 2025. The fund will support core costs, such as salaries and overheads and support the organisations in accessing other sources of funding for their work providing stability and potential to grow.

Leaky barriers installed on Ilkley Moor as part of flood management project

leaky barrier

A series of leaky barriers and earth bunds (earth formed into an embankment to form a flood barrier) are being built on Ilkley Moor, as the next steps in Backstone Beck Natural Flood Management Project start this week.

Timber is being used to create some new structures to slow drainage and help restore peatlands. Earth bunds are currently being constructed in the upper catchment of Ilkley Moor which requires machinery so visitors may see some equipment on site this week.

The works form a major part of the Backstone Beck Natural Flood Management Project – an ongoing partnership project with ourselves and the Environment Agency that is using natural flood management techniques to reduce the risk of flooding from Ilkley Moor.

Government funded insulation scheme gets warm welcome

insulation scheme

Keighley residents have responded with enthusiasm to free home improvement measures being offered which will make their homes warmer, more energy efficient and reduce fuel bills.

We are working in partnership with Eclipse Energy and Better Homes Yorkshire to deliver Phase 2 of the Local Area Delivery (LAD) of the Government’s Green Homes Grant – funding from the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

The work involves fully insulating attic space, plastering and redecorating the area, installing insulation vats in the windows for air flow and, if needed providing mechanical insulation to bathrooms, such as an extractor fan. Work can be completed within two weeks and households are urged to sign up before the colder months set in.

So far 17 households have signed up to the scheme and Room in the Roof insulation work has been done in five of these houses.
