Boosters get underway to protect people in Bradford district and Craven
The NHS in Bradford district and Craven have started offering booster jabs to top up protection for people who are at greatest risk from COVID-19.
In line with JCVI guidelines, these will be offered to people in the nine priority groups, starting with care home residents and staff, frontline health and care workers and people aged 80 and over.
The NHS will contact eligible people when it’s their turn for the booster, which needs to be given at least six months after they had their second dose. You will either get a text or call from your local GP service or an invitation from the National Booking Service, which will allow you to choose the most convenient centre for you to attend.
Those who are eligible for a booster include:
- those living in residential care homes for older adults
- all adults aged 50 years or over
- frontline health and social care workers
- all those aged 16 to 49 years with underlying health conditions that put them at higher risk of severe COVID-19 (as set out in the green book), and adult carers
- adult household contacts of immunosuppressed individuals
In line with JCVI advice people will receive either one dose of the Pfizer vaccine or half a dose of the Moderna vaccine.
Updated guidance for parents and carers about attending schools, nurseries and colleges in 2021
The Department for Education (DfE) has updated the guidance for parents and carers about attending schools, nurseries and colleges in 2021.
Main messages in the guidance
As COVID-19 becomes a virus that we learn to live with, there is now an imperative to reduce the disruption to children and young people’s education - particularly given that the direct risks to children are extremely low, every adult has been offered the opportunity for 2 doses of the vaccine, and all children aged 12 and over are now eligible for vaccination. However, as set out in the autumn and winter plan, the government will remain vigilant and take action where necessary to support and protect the NHS.
The main messages from this guidance are:
- nationally, education and childcare settings are open, and attendance is mandatory (for schools) and strongly encouraged (at childminders, nurseries and colleges)
- the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health has made it clear that the overwhelming majority of children and young people still have no symptoms or very mild illness only
- continuing to take regular rapid tests will help you to identify infections early and reduce transmission
- there is no need for primary age pupils (those in year 6 and below) to test
- your nursery, school or college no longer trace close contacts - close contacts will be identified via NHS Test and Trace
- children and young people aged under 18 years 6 months who usually attend school, and have been identified as a close contact are no longer required to self-isolate
- your child no longer needs to remain in a consistent group (‘bubble’)
- the government has removed the requirement to wear face coverings in law but expects and recommends that they are worn in enclosed and crowded spaces where you may come into contact with people you don’t normally meet
- all children aged 12 and over are now eligible for a COVID-19 vaccination
- changes to advice for clinically extremely vulnerable children and young people

Timetable of walk-in vaccination clinics across the district

- Anyone aged 16 or over. Some clinics are for people of certain ages because of the type of vaccine being offered and some walk-in sites are offering the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to people aged 16 and 17.
- Anyone who is due their second dose and had their first dose 8 weeks ago or there’s a clinical need for it to be earlier.
- If you already have an appointment booked, you can still get a jab at a walk-in clinic but please make sure you cancel your booked appointment so someone else can use it.
