Local Offer - August

SEND Partnership newsletter

Welcome

Hello and welcome

Hello everyone, we hope you are all keeping well. We wanted to send an update ahead of the return to school for many of our children and families which is fast approaching. We have some tips to share from our local support service called SENDIASS. We hope these tips help with any anxieties about the return to school and the service can be contacted if you have any further questions or advice.

The Bradford Local Offer website is designed to support families, parents and carers with children and young people with SEND and can help you find other services and provisions that are available to you in the Bradford district and surrounding areas. You can visit the Bradford Local Offer here.

Back to school

top tips for parents of children with SEND on returning to school

Going back to school after a long summer break can be exciting for children, however it can also be a very anxious time of the year for children and parents.

SENDIASS have shared with us some top tips in anticipation of the return to school for many children and young people. You can read the top tips here.

You can contact SENDIASS if you need any information, advice and support or are having specific difficulties with your child’s education.

Phone: 01274 513300 or visit their webpage here.

what do you think

preparation for adulthood

Bradford Council is currently developing a brochure aimed at students and their families/carers to increase understanding about the options available across the Bradford district in education, health and social care for young people from the age of 14 onwards. We would be really interested in finding out what you think should be included in this.

The survey below has been developed to gain your feedback, particularly about what you would like to see from a Bradford preparation for adulthood brochure.

This survey should only take a few minutes to complete, and we look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Complete the survey here. Many thanks for your support.

one minute guide’s –
Is there anything missing?

Our 'one minute guides' were developed to help parent/carers by explaining key topics in a quick read, and we hope you have found these helpful.

The key topics and development of the current  guides were created as a result of our Listening events and include topics like annual reviews, personal budgets, EHCP plans, extra support and SEN support.

If you haven’t already seen Bradford’s one minute guides please visit this page.

Additionally if you have any key topics that you would like to see as a one minute guide, please email: SENDTandC@bradford.gov.uk

Thank You

Thank you for your feedback

Thank you to those of you who completed the EHCP Annual review survey. We had 27 responses to the survey. It is hoped the Annual Review survey will be embedded into the SEND Portal which will hopefully go live next term so parent/carers will have the opportunity to continue to provide their comments and views on the Annual Review process as they complete their child or young person’s Annual Review.

The initial findings from the Annual Review survey showed the following responses from parent/carers within the Bradford district:

  • 88.9% of parent/carers had the confidence to take part in discussions during their Annual Review meeting.
  • 59.2% of parent/carers thought that the right people attended the meeting.
  • 25.9% of parent/carers were not clear on the progress their child or young person is making and what the outcomes for the next year will be.

SEND Inspection

Some of you may be aware Bradford is one of the few areas not to have had a SEND Inspection by Ofsted. The Inspection could happen any time from 5 September onwards. A lot of work has already gone in from the team, partners and the wider district. Thank you to all partners, parent/ carers and young people who have offered to support in this area. We will of course be in touch when we have a date for the inspection.

Listening event

The Parents' Forum for Bradford and Airedale (PFBA) are looking to hold the next parent/carer listening event in early November. Further details will be in the next newsletter but please do not hesitate to contact the PFBA if you wish to register and interest. Email supportnews@pfba.org.uk
