Young people aged 16 & 17 can get their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine

Grab a Jab

The NHS will be in contact with 16 and 17 year old children when it's their turn to get the vaccine and they will be invited to a local NHS service such as a GP surgery. Currently you cannot book your appointment online but most walk-in COVID-19 vaccination sites are offering the vaccine to people aged 16 and 17.

There is a wide selection of walk in clinics in our district, you can fit it around all the other things you do – work, college, university or just meeting with your mates.

Check out the full timetable including eligibility, age and vaccine types for walk-in vaccinations near you.

Who can attend walk in clinics?

  • Anyone aged 16 or over. Some clinics are for people of certain ages because of the type of vaccine being offered and some walk-in sites are offering the COVID-19 vaccine to people aged 16 and 17.
  • Anyone who is due their second dose and had their first dose 8 weeks ago or there’s a clinical need for it to be earlier.
  • If you already have an appointment booked, you can still get a jab at a walk-in clinic but please make sure you cancel your booked appointment so someone else can use it.
  • You do not need to have an NHS number or be registered with a GP.

Future Boost – providing additional opportunities for young people

Young people across the Bradford District are being offered additional support this summer with employment, education and training opportunities under the new Future Boost initiative.

Future Boost, which is being led by Bradford Council, aims to make sure that everyone aged between 16 and 24 who is not already working, studying or training, can get help to find a job.

The scheme was launched in June this year and helps young people to get work experience or a paid placement, a place at college or university or to secure an apprenticeship, training programme or volunteering role.

Under the scheme, Bradford Council says every young person in the district will have access to;

  • high-quality careers education, advice and guidance
  • a learning course
  • an offer of an employment placement
  • culture, sport and community-based activities
  • an online mentor.

Future Boost has seen the council work with a range of partners including the district’s further education colleges, its university, local employers, community organisations and National Careers Service.

Celebrating Museums across Yorkshire

Bradford museums

Bradford Museums' video of ‘Jadughor The Magic Room’ at Cartwright Hall received the most votes in the ‘Inclusion and Relevance’ category at a recent ‘Celebrating Museums across Yorkshire’ event.

The event was a partnership between Arts Council England and Museum Development Yorkshire, supported by York Museums Trust, and celebrated and reflected on the wide range of projects delivered by Yorkshire’s museums over the past year.

‘Jadughor’ is the Bangla word for museum, and translates into English as ‘magic room’. At Cartwright Hall a ‘magic room’ of wonder and curiosity using objects from Bradford’s museum collections has been created. The gallery is part of ongoing work to present objects in new ways to inspire and  engage visitors, with the main themes being nature and the home.

Everyday objects can have the same level of interest and beauty as some of the most expensive items in museum collections. Visitors can see household objects that are part of the museum’s collections from a variety of Bradford homes and vary from 20 to 70 years old. Some might look familiar, but aren’t quite the same as ones we have in our homes now. Depending on your age, you might not recognise some of them at all!
