Following the identification of a rising number of cases in the Bradford District of the Delta Variant of Concern, which was first identified in India, the decision has been made to introduce additional testing (sometimes known as surge testing) and enhanced contact tracing in several wards:
Bowling & Barkerend Bradford Moor
City Clayton & Fairweather Green
Heaton Little Horton
Manningham Royds
Thornton & Allerton Toller
The list of postcode districts for additional testing are:
BD1, BD2, BD3, BD4, BD5, BD6, BD7, BD8, BD9, BD13, BD14,BD15
Being proactive in conducting extra testing will mean that we can understand whether this variant has spread further in the community and use the data to bring in the right vaccines to the district, encourage everyone to continue to follow guidelines and stop the virus from spreading further.
It is right that we act with caution towards variants of concern, as it is vital that we don’t allow a new variant to undo all of the hard work and sacrifices that the vaccine rollout is doing to protect us all.
COVID-19 testing is now available either door-to-door or at several mobile testing sites which you can attend without booking an appointment, you can just turn up, whether you have any symptoms or not.
- Richard Dunn Sports Centre – Saturday and Sunday
- Whetley Mills, Thornton Road – Saturday and Sunday
- Lister Park Bandstand – all week
- Centenary Square (walk in only) – all week
- University (drive through only) – all week
- Victoria Hall, Keighley – all week
- Pudsey Civic Centre, Dawson Corner, Pudsey – all week
Everyone of secondary school age and above who live, work or study in the targeted areas is strongly encouraged to take a COVID-19 test, whether you are showing symptoms or not.
What you can do:
If you live, work or go to school in one of the wards identified please get tested.
Encourage your family, friends and colleagues to get tested too.
Continue to follow the guidelines – Hands, Face Space, Fresh Air. The virus hasn’t gone away and is still causing concern.
Get vaccinated. If you have been offered a vaccination please take up the offer (both doses) – even if you chose not to have it done previously you can change your mind and get it done now.
Share the Council’s social media posts on your own accounts.
Thank you for your support - the sooner we stop the virus from spreading, the sooner we protect our families, friends, colleagues and the NHS.
The Government announced that people in England will see restrictions start to lift. They have published details of a four-step road map which details the route back to a more normal life.
An announcement will be made next week about whether we can progress to the final stage of the road map.
Details on the each step can be found on the government website.
Self-isolate - help stop the spread
If you have coronavirus symptoms or have tested positive for coronavirus you must self-isolate for 10 days.
You should self-isolate if you have any of the following symptoms:
- a high temperature
- a new, continuous cough
- a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste
If you have not already had a test you can book your test here: www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test
Keeping yourself and others safe
Social distancing is still very important. You should stay 2 metres apart from anyone who is not in your household or support bubble where possible, or 1 metre with extra precautions in place (such as wearing face coverings) if you cannot stay 2 metres apart.
It is more important than ever to remember Hands, Face, Space and Fresh Air to keep infection levels down and our friends and family safe.
