Composting
We are encouraging all residents to take up composting.
Composting is a great way of transforming your kitchen and garden waste into a useful resource for your garden. It's a natural process where kitchen and garden waste rots down to produce compost, a dark brown earthy material which can be used with in your garden to improve the soil and add nutrients, to help plants and flowers grow.
Another reason to compost is that around 40 per cent of the average dustbin contents are suitable for home-composting so by composting at home it helps cut down on landfill too.
If you need any further information about composting, please visit the Recycle Now website.

New to me
Our New to Me shop which has been closed due to pandemic restrictions re-opened on Monday 19 April at 10am.
The shop, which finds new homes for unwanted goods, will open Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm at Bowling Back Lane Household Waste Recycling Centre. All sorts of items are available for a £1.
The goods on offer include everything from items of furniture to ornaments, pots, pans, cutlery, dvds, books and cds.
Staff at household waste recycling centres across the district look out for goods which have been deposited, but are still in good enough condition to be useful to others.
They are collected and delivered to the shop at Bowling Back Lane where people can give them a new home.
Visitors are advised to wear masks and observe strict social distancing rules.
How to get a HWRC permit
If you want to use your vehicle to take your waste to one of the Council's Household Waste Recycling Centres you need a residents permit.
In March 2017 all residents received a free permit with their Council Tax bill. If you have moved into the Bradford District since then and do not have a permit you can apply for one online. Your request will be checked and a permit will be sent to you by post.
Are you putting the right things in your bin?
Our bin crews are continuing to find contaminated recycling loads. This occurs when residents are putting the wrong things in the recycling bins. Recently our crews have found: electrical items, wire, soiled nappies, children’s toys, food, bedding, pillows, clothes and garden waste in recycling bins across the district.
Our Recycling Team will be checking recycling bins for any items that shouldn’t be in there ahead of the crew on collection day. If the bin is contaminated, residents will have a red tag put on their bin asking them to remove the items before their next collection and your waste will not be collected this time.
If you're unsure what to put in your recycling bin, you can visit our website to learn more.
