Celebrating St George's Day

City Hall with St. George's flags flying outside

City Hall in Bradford, will be lit up red and white to mark St George’s Day on Friday, 23 April and the flag of England, depicting the cross of St George, will be flown from the flagpoles in Centenary Square in the city centre and from flagpoles across the district.

St George

The flag of St George will also be raised by staff at Bradford Cathedral, who will be sharing a special video that they’ve put together about St George and where he is depicted inside the cathedral. You can view this video here.

Dragon on Cliffe Castle

Our Museums and Galleries Service will be holding a dragon hunt via its Twitter and Facebook pages, encouraging people to spot the dragon while they explore the venues online, ahead of their planned reopening next month.

There will also be a colouring in sheet featuring one of the dragons which can be found on a vase at Cliffe Castle in Keighley. Cliffe Castle’s very own Bracewell Dragon will be getting in on the action too.

Stories from the Big Red Chair

Bradford Libraries will be hosting a special online storytime session for children, with the story of George and the Dragon by Chris Wormell being read live from the Big Red Chair. Visit their website to join in.

Our Visit Bradford team have also put together a blog post with suggestions and ideas for celebrating St George’s Day. Explore the district at www.visitbradford.com.

What ever you do to celebrate we need to remember to please continue following the guidelines around washing hands, wearing face coverings, making space and meeting in the fresh air to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
