Plans confirmed for Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day 2020

The 2020 Remembrance Day and Armistice Day will be commemorated across the Bradford district but will be done in a different way this year due to COVID-19.

Remembrance and Armistice Days are key dates in the national calendar, and while people are still being encouraged to pay their respects, this year’s events will largely take place online and at home, in order to protect the health and wellbeing of our residents and veterans.

We are encouraging residents and veterans to pay their respects at home, by observing the national 2-minute silence, following our social media and displaying a poppy poster from their home.  People are also encouraged to use the hashtag #BradfordRemembers on social media with any poppy pictures or other ways they are marking the day with their own acts of remembrance at home or at school.

Fly-tipping van crushed

Fly tipping van crushed

A van which was caught being used by fly-tippers at least 10 times has been crushed by Bradford Council. The same Mercedes van was spotted on CCTV cameras around Bradford South and West areas and linked to addresses in Low Moor and Manningham.

It was seized in Low Moor by Bradford Council using laws brought in as part of the national fight against environmental crime. The registered keeper of the van was given 15 days to provide the relevant documents and claim it.

This didn’t happen, giving officers the chance to either sell the van or destroy it. An inspection found it to be un-roadworthy, rendering it worthless. The only option left to the Council was to have it crushed and recycled at the EMR Metal Recycling Bradford depot in Laisterdyke.

Environmental enforcement officers are now trying to track down the people who had been using it so they can be prosecuted for their anti-social and criminal activities. Officers suspect that it was used on many more occasions that the ones caught on camera.
