Covid-19 business support grants – important update
The government’s Covid-19 business support grants are changing so it is important you read how these may affect you.
The Small Business Grant, Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant and Local Authority Discretionary Grants are designed to support businesses through the current Covid-19 pandemic.
Small Business Fund Grant and Retail Hospitality and Leisure Grant
The Small Business Grant Fund and Retail Hospitality and Leisure Grant Fund will close at 6pm, 28 August 2020.
All applications must be received by this time.
Unfortunately, applications received after this time cannot be considered.
For both the Small Business Grant Fund and Retail Hospitality and Leisure Grant Fund, you must have been trading on or before 11 March 2020 and to have been on our records as the ratepayer.
If you began trading after this date, you are not entitled to these grants.
If you are a ratepayer receiving Small Business Rate Relief you may be entitled to these grants.
For the Small Business Grant Fund, check the government guidance on the types of business the grant applies to. You can apply for the Small Business Grant Fund here.
If your business trades in the retail, hospitality or leisure sectors you may be entitled to a Retail Hospitality and Leisure Grant. You must have been a ratepayer on 11 March 2020 and the property must have a rateable value below £51,000 and meet the government’s criteria. Apply online here.
When applying for the Small Business Grant or Retail Hospitality and Leisure Grant you will need to have your business rate account reference number which is shown on your annual bill and your business bank account details.
Local Authority Discretionary Grants Fund
There has been a very strong response to the Discretionary Grants Fund which closed on 19 June.
We will shortly be announcing a second round of funding to support a wider range of businesses. An application window will open shortly, which will also have a closing date 6pm, 28 August 2020.
The focus will remain on small and micro businesses and charities with fixed property costs who have suffered a significant impact on their income due to Covid-19. Full details will be posted on our website shortly.
178 grants have so far been paid to eligible round one businesses - small businesses in shared offices/workspaces, regular market traders, bed and breakfasts that pay council tax, charity properties in receipt of charitable business rates relief, and childcare businesses with fixed property costs.
Unsuccessful applicants are being advised if their claims have not been approved.
We are also advising those who may qualify for support through the second round.
The team is completing a small number of appraisals and will be in touch with applicants as soon as possible.
Please do not contact us to chase progress - we will email you.
Please watch out for emails from Top Up Business Grants and check your junk folders to ensure these haven’t been archived.
