Pubs, restaurants and bars reopening
Whilst pubs, restaurants and bars are all able to open from 4 July, the coronavirus is still here and we all still need to stay safe. We don’t want a local lockdown.
Please remember that Covid-19 has not gone away. Please act sensibly to protect yourself, your friends, family, carers, staff and volunteers, and your local health and care services.
If you or anyone in your household has symptoms of coronavirus, however mild, you must stay at home and immediately arrange to have a test, ring 111 or visit www.111.nhs.uk
Going out and about? What can you expect, how can you prepare?
Some places have decided to stay closed this weekend and those that are opening will be doing things differently. If you are planning on going out, it’s best to check with the venue in advance to see what their plans are. That way you’ll know what to expect and how you can prepare.
How are you going to get there and get home?
You’ll need to think about how you will travel
- You’ll need to wear a face covering on public transport including in a taxi.
- There will be taxis, but you might not all be able to pile in the one taxi.
- Buses and trains might be running different timetables and may only take limited numbers of passengers.
- Book in advance and check time tables.
Have you made a reservation?
- Most places are only taking bookings, so you’ll probably not be able to just walk in and get a drink or a meal, especially this weekend. You will probably need to pre-book a table and a time slot. Check out their social media pages or give them a ring to book your table and find out what their plans are.
- Places are booking up fast and if you’ve not booked you may not get in.
PPE – (Personal protective equipment)
- Screens and barriers may be in place to separate customers.
- You’ll be asked to use hand sanitiser and you may have to wear a face covering.
- Bar staff will wear masks and gloves.
Social distancing
- Indoor gatherings are limited to members of any two households (or support bubbles), while outdoor gatherings are limited to members of any two households (or support bubbles), or a group of at most six people from any number of households.
- You should stay two metres apart.
- Staff will keep their distance when taking your orders or serving you. You are unlikely to be able to serve yourself and you may have to use an app or your phone to place you order.
Pub, bar or restaurant layout
- Tables will be two metres apart and screens will be erected at bars to protect staff.
- You’ll not be able to queue at the bar.
- Limits on customers will also be in place, with people only let in if there is a seat for them.
- There will be limits on toilets as well, so you may need to queue.
- A one-way system of sorts will probably be in place with customers entering via one door and having to leave via another.
No singing or loud music
- Everyone loves a good sing along but to reduce the spread of Covid-19 you’ll not be allowed to sing or take part in karaoke.
- Music will be kept low, to minimise the need to shout over it or bend your head close to talk.
Recording your visit
- You may be asked screening questions about your health before being admitted.
- Bars and restaurants will have to keep a record of everyone who visits.
- Personal details are kept on file for four weeks and are used to contact people if one of the patrons later is hit with coronavirus.
Ordering and paying
- You’ll not be able to queue up at the bar and you may have to order your round of drinks using a downloaded app.
- Most places won’t have menus on tables and many places are expected to have a reduced menu.
- The business may only be taking card or contactless payments and not cash so make sure you take your cards with you.
Entering and leaving
- Arrival and departure times may be staggered and you may only be able to stay for a specified period. Please arrive at your specified time – not early or late.
- Capacity will be restricted, so you may be turned away if a business is full.
- You may also have to wait in a queue outside and the weather’s not looking that cracking this weekend, so don’t forget your brolly or your big coat.
- Enjoy yourself but please be responsible and follow the Covid-19 guidelines.
- Please abide by the rules of the business and respect the decisions of the staff – they are working to the government guidelines for your safety as well as theirs.
- This is all a new experience for everyone and we all need to work together and be kind to one another, so that it can be an enjoyable experience for staff and customers alike.
