Suggest improvements for better social distancing and safer journeys by bike
There are a number of changes that have been proposed across the district to support people to ride their bikes to work, as well as to facilitate social distancing.
They include:
- The installation of cycle lanes, protected by barriers, in to and out of Bradford city centre along with other supportive active travel and cycle measures around the district;
- A reduction in speed limits on key routes where this will support cycle friendly infrastructure;
- Increased secure cycle parking in council owned car parks and at other hubs around the district;
- The closure of part of Hall Ings in the city centre to motor vehicles except buses, taxis and those accessing the NCP car park.
These suggestions have been put forward by the Council after consulting with ward members, the general public, cycling group members and Clean Air Bradford. If approval is received the measures will be funded through Government monies to implement measures that will facilitate social distancing, as well as make it easier for people to cycle and walk.
If you have an idea as to what could be done to support cycling in the district you can submit your idea through the Bradford Council web portal
Household Waste Recycling Centres - almost back to business as usual
Household Waste Recycling Centres across the district are starting to return to business as usual. Currently six of the eight HWRCs are open with some operating different hours, however, this will change over the next few weeks.
Bowling Back Lane and Royd Ings Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC) are now open.
- Bowling Back Lane HWRC, Bradford will be open from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm on Saturdays and 9am to 4pm on Sundays.
- Royd Ings Ave HWRC, Keighley will be open from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm on Saturdays and 9am to 4pm on Sundays.
They will no longer have late night openings.
Plans to open Ford Hill WRC, Queensbury as soon as possible are underway. Unfortunately, Sugden End HWRC, Keighley will not open until a safe and stable operating environment, including traffic management and 2m social distancing, can be guaranteed.
Cars with trailers and vans with domestic waste are now able to use any site – they must have the relevant permit.
Don't forget to take your HWRC permit with you to access the sites.
Bulky Waste Collections The bulky waste service is also operating. There is a small charge which people can book and pay for over the phone or through our website. Items that will be collected include furniture, beds, bikes, carpets, mattresses, garden furniture and even bags of garden waste.
For further information about HWRCs or to arrange a bulky waste collection, please go to our website or call 01274 431000.
Getting rid of PPE
If you wear a cloth face covering in public, you should wash it after use in line with the manufacturer’s instructions. If it’s not washable or is worn out or disposable, you should put it in your green general waste bin.
You must not put used face coverings of any kind or Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as gloves, into the recycling bin. Please don't drop them as litter – it’s a criminal offence and you may be fined.

The support, which is available to local councils and all organisations involved with high streets, includes free access to online training programmes and webinars, as well as data and intelligence on topics including: recovery planning and coordination, public space and place marketing.
Further details on the support available, upcoming webinars and resources can be found on the website.
The FAQ document on the Reopening High Streets Safely Fund was also recently updated to clarify key information.

Frontline responders can access the training materials for free through the Future Learn website.
Self-employed new parents can claim support grant
The government has announced that self-employed parents whose trading profits dipped in 2018/19 because they took time out to have children will be able to claim for a payment under the Self-Employed Income Support Scheme (SEISS).
Parents who took time out of trading to care for their children within the first 12 months of birth or adoptive placement will now be able to use either their 2017-18 or both their 2016-17 and 2017-18 self-assessment returns as the basis for their eligibility for the SEISS.
Further details of the change for self-employed parents will be set out by the start of July in published guidance.
