Advice for those with learning difficulties
We are also providing more accessible information through a series of easier to read guides on the Council’s coronavirus advice page for people with learning disabilities In partnership with BTM, and with advice from our public health team.
In addition, Bradford Council will be making contact with all of the 1,200 adult with a learning disability and the 296 young people with the most complex disabilities who we support across the District.
Our social work teams are calling to check on their continued wellbeing and safety and to discuss any changes to how their support is planned and arranged as lockdown eases.
They will also look to provide enhanced support for those who are clinically vulnerable to Covid-19 and need to remain shielded.
Learning Disability week 2020
The theme this year is celebrating friendships and connections, particularly during lockdown.
So, whether you are a family member, support worker or friend, show how much friendship is important to you and your friends.
At a time when we are not seeing as many people as normally, friendships yone benefits from friendships. For more information about the week, visit the Mencap website.
Cervical screening tests resume across the district
Bradford residents are being encouraged to attend their routine cervical screening appointments at their local GP practices for the potentially life-saving test.
Women due for a cervical screening test will start to receive letters asking them to attend after being temporarily paused for eight weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic.
As part of the NHS Cervical Screening Programme, women aged 25-49 are invited for a smear test at their GP practice every three years, while those aged 50-64 receive an invitation every five years.
Local GPs are urging people to attend their cervical screening if they have been invited.
If you are overdue for your cervical screening test or are not sure when you are due, people can get in touch with their GP practice. Information about cervical screening is available on the NHS website: www.nhs.uk/conditions/cervical-screening/.
Cervical Screening Awarness Week
This week is also cervical screening awareness week (15 – 19 June 2020).
You can find out more on the Jo’s Trust website.
