The Balcony, Cliffe Castle Museum
Saturday 14 September - Sunday 3 November 2019
This exhibition showcases some of the many different types and traditions of rugmaking, highlighting old methods and new techniques.
Traditional thrift crafts are not only being preserved by local groups but also by independent teachers and other individuals working at home. These crafts are being given a new lease of life and have also become forms of creative art.
The Airedale, Lunesdale and West Riding rug groups are based in Riddlesden, Kirkby Lonsdale and Idle, respectively. Members are drawn from as far north as Alston from the Lake District, the Dales, Keighley, Bradford and Leeds, and south into Calderdale. Several members belong to more than one group.
