Scam phone call alert

Make sure you are not caught out

We have been made aware of an attempted fraud case by an individual claiming to represent Bradford Council’s safe and sound service.

Please be aware that the council would not contact people about this service without a good reason and they would never ask for bank or debit card details over the phone.

The caller had suggested they could get the service for free – if this was the case, there would be no need for payment.

What should I do if I am concerned?

If you, a relative or someone you care for are concerned you may have been scammed, please contact the police's Action Fraud team online or by calling 0300 123 2040.

If you want to check the call is genuine, hang up and call the Council’s Safe and Sound team on 01274 435249.

What is the safe and sound service?

Safe and Sound is a telecare service that helps monitor someone’s wellbeing using their phone line and a pendant.

The service is available to anyone of any age who is assessed as needing help to feel safer, more protected and independent in their own home.

This includes people:

  • with health problems
  • who have had falls
  • who are struggling with frailty or illness
  • who have dementia
  • who live alone
  • who have just come out of hospital
  • who care for someone else

You can also be assessed for equipment such as smoke alarms, fall detectors, heat sensors and can link to a reminder system for medication.
