Creative Writing and Poetry Courses


Creative Writing

Creative Writing: 10 weeks

Learn about different writing styles and genre through weekly exercises. This course will lead you through the essentials of the craft, including characterization, plotting, description, dialogue and editing.

There will also be the chance to explore publishing opportunities and share your own writing and receive feedback. Beginners and more experienced writers welcome. 10 weeks.

Poetry: 10 weeks

Learn how to 'make' your own poetry by exploring different poetic  techniques and styles.

Whether you’ve been writing poems for years or you’ve never written a line explore poems and find your own poetic voice through writing exercises, discussion and feedback. 10 weeks

Course fees and booking a place. £75 full fee (for 10 weeks) £40 seniors (in receipt of a pension and not working) 3 free places per course for JSA/ESA (first come basis).

An Afternoon with R.C. Bridgestock

Best selling husband and wife writing duo will be talking about how they went from 30 years in the police force in Bradford to become crime novelists and script consultants on TVs Happy Valley and Scott and Bailey.
Refreshments served.

Writing the Crime Novel

This event is aimed at anyone interested in how RC Bridgestock write their novels - from research to planning the plot and characters. Find out what makes a good crime novel whether you’re interested in writing your own or just interested in how a book comes together.

Fun Family Activities this Easter


Bradford Libraries are offering a host of fun family activities this Easter.  Library staff will be telling stories involving bunnies, Easter baskets and of course eggs, and welcoming children and their families to join the fun. 

Along with the storytime each library will be helping children and families to make Easter baskets with craft materials.

Bingley Library will also be searching for hidden eggs and holding a special colouring competition for young budding artists.

There will be an Egg Hunt and special movie time at Heaton Hub Library.

Children can jump straight into this comprehension workshop and learn some fantastic skills. Can they predict what will happen next? And why did that character say that? A free drop-in creative-writing workshop designed especially for children age 7 to 9 years and delivered by Explore Learning.

“Journey to the King’s Throne”
Creative Writing Workshop for Children with Explore Learning

All knights go through many quests and this journey to the king’s throne is no different. We travel back to medieval times and children will joust their way through many grammar tournaments. A free drop-in creative-writing workshop designed especially for children age 5 to 11 years and delivered by Explore Learning.
