 Bradford District’s seventh
Safeguarding Week launches on Monday 25 June with a special community event at
Holme Wood Connect.
The event showcases activities and projects which local community groups have
developed. The event will see presentations about the Build a Girl project,
which supports young women in Holme Wood; the Buddy Project, an
innovative way of supporting young people who are vulnerable; and the MYMUP project, which offers digital health and wellbeing solutions to help
communities to self-care, socially interact and promote transformational change
in their lives.

With
more than 50 events taking place during the week, there is still time to book
on to a workshop or learning event (space permitting).
The full programme for
the week is available on our website. So if you haven’t booked on to anything yet, check out the programme and get
involved!
The week
also has a public consultation event on Wednesday 27 June called Going
forward together: Bradford Safeguarding Adults Board’s new three year plan. We
want engagement with people who use services and with the public to help us inform the Safeguarding Adults
Board strategic plan for the next three years. So please share with your
networks.

Safeguarding weeks will also be starting on Monday involving all the local safeguarding boards and community safety partnerships across the region, who have joined forces with West Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Mark Burns-Williamson, and West Yorkshire Police to hold workshops and events aimed at informing the public and professionals about how to protect the most vulnerable across the region.
Tackling domestic abuse, mental health, forced marriage and providing awareness on protecting children and victims of human trafficking are all topics covered as part of West Yorkshire’s Safeguarding Week.
Bradford
Council’s Deputy Director of Social Care, Jim Hopkinson, talks about
Safeguarding Week in a wide ranging podcast interview with David Niven,
Independent Chair of the Bradford Safeguarding Children Board. It also includes subjects
such as child sexual exploitation and the radicalisation of young people, Jim
outlines his take on now and the future in safeguarding.
