Sue Vickerman and Jean Stevens will be reading from their collections of poems.

Sue Vickerman is a writer of poetry, novels and short stories. 'Passionate, laconic poetry' (UA Fanthorpe), 'salt-drenched - I loved it' (Sandi Toksvig), 'Excellent' (Bloodaxe's Neil Astley), 'piercingly topical - a glorious achievement' (Magnus Magnusson).

Sue Vickerman's first poetry collection SHAG was closely followed by THE SOCIAL DECLINE OF THE OYSTERCATCHER. Her novel SPECIAL NEEDS is a biting commentary on Englishness, snobbery, sex and identity. KUNST, a poetry collection illustrated with life-drawings, is published under the name of fictional character 'Suki', the failed poet and jobbing artist's model (ageing, single, desperate) created by Sue Vickerman and with whom Sue also has a joint collection, THIN BONES LIKE WISH-BONES.

Jean Stevens is a poet, playwright and actress Her poems have appeared in Acumen, Artemis, Cake, The High Window Journal, London Magazine, Stand, The North, Mslexia, Other Poetry, Smoke, Dream Catcher, Meridian, Oasis, Orbis, Other Poetry, Poetry and Audience, the Bridport Prize Anthology (2016), and have been broadcast on BBC Radio Three and Radio Four. She is a past winner of the Yorkshire Post Prize and the Leeds Libraries Writing Prize, and has been shortlisted for The Rialto Prize and The Poetry Business Pamphlet Competition (2017).

Her plays have been performed at Derby Playhouse, Edinburgh Festival, Harrogate Theatre, West Yorkshire Playhouse, etc., and her stand-up comedy script won the Polo prize at London’s Comedy Store.

As a professional actor she has credits for stage, film and television.

Free Creative Writing Workshops with Gill Lambert

Would you like to have a go at writing? Would you like to tell your story? They say we’ve all got a book in us!

The workshop will explore, through poetry and stories, peoples' experiences. You will use prompts to help you write about life events and how you have survived and overcome difficulties as well as what has happened to you if you haven't. The workshops will take the form of prompts to trigger participant's writing, as well as a voluntary chance to share work. All welcome. No experience necessary. FREE of charge.
