Extreme weather update

Weather forecast

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning covering the Bradford district, but the forecast is for it to clear up later. Please take extra care on snow and ice.

Gritting and roads update

Gritting teams out during the night and this morning

Our gritting teams were working through the night and are out again this morning. Despite this, the snow is settling on all roads. We also have staff gritting by hand in some areas, including on Huddersfield Road by Odsal Top.

Please allow extra time for your journey, make sure your windscreen is clear, drive slowly and leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front.

Traffic issues this morning

There is currently congestion on several roads across the district. Roads affected this morning include:

  • Manchester Road, by Mayo Avenue, where an accident is causing delays
  • Canal Road by Tesco outbound from the city centre
  • Otley Road, near the Valley Road junction
  • in Queensbury, towards Bradford
  • Wheatley Lane in in Ilkley
  • Thornton Road from Allerton towards Bradford
  • Duckworth Lane roundabout
  • Hamm Strasse from Valley Road
  • Cemetery Road towards Legrams Lane
  • Shipley Airedale Road out of the city centre
  • Bingley Main Street.

The above information is accurate as of 10.05am.

We will share any further updates about the roads on Twitter throughout the day.

Winter and gritting

The photo below was sent to us by one of our bin collection teams this morning. They had stopped to help this car get moving on the snow.

See our website for winter driving advice.

Bin collections

Our bin crews are out this morning trying to catch up on missed collections from last week and yesterday. Please bear with us, the conditions are awful and with having extra waste to collect progress is slow.

Bins in snow

Please don't report missed bins this week

If we haven't emptied your bin as scheduled this week, there is no need to report it to us. All roads that we cannot reach are reported automatically, and our waste team managers know where we have and haven't managed to reach.

Our contact centre are getting a lot of enquiries at the moment, as you can imagine. It would help them get to other important questions quicker if you don't report missed bins. Thank you for your support with this.

We will collect extra waste when we come back

Although we wouldn't normally take extra bags of rubbish, if we haven't been able to empty your bin due to the snow, we will take bagged up extra waste when we come back.
