 Micro:bit lending scheme
Did you know you can now borrow a BBC micro:bit from some of our libraries in Bradford?
Starter kits are free to borrow, and contain a BBC micro:bit, a mini-USB cable and a battery pack, along with some instructions to get you started … which means you can unleash your digital creativity in the comfort of your own bedroom – and get your family involved too!
The BBC micro:bit is really easy to pick up and use with little training, and can be programmed using a variety of free coding platforms on a PC, laptop or Bluetooth-enabled smartphone or tablet. And although it’s small enough to fit into the palm of your hand, it has a screen, onboard sensors and the option to add a host of exciting peripherals such as servo motors, lights, switches and all manner of sensors – and even robots.

Suffrage Workshops especially for Home- Educating
Families
Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Suffrage Movement and the Representation of the People Act 1918 at our Suffrage Workshops especially for Home- Educating Families.
Bradford Libraries are delighted
that we can offer Home Educating Families a chance to celebrate the centenary
of the Representation of the People Act 1918 and the Suffrage Movement.
The workshop will offer children
the chance to find out first hand from a local Suffragette (actress &
storyteller Irene Lofthouse) about her experience fighting for the right to
vote including protests in Bradford and London and a time in jail. Find
out who exactly got the vote on the 6th February 1918, how the press
reported the events leading to the act of Parliament and what the significance
was to us all. There will an opportunity for the children to view local archive
materials and wander around the display as well making the ribbon-pins
traditionally worn by the Suffragettes.
Our Suffrage Workshop is at Bradford Local Studies Library,
Margaret McMillan Tower (side entrance), Princes’ Way, Bradford, BD1 1NN on
Tuesday 6th
March 1.15pm – 2.30pm.
The session is
free of charge and places must be booked in advance.

This year World Book Day is Thursday 1st March.
Bradford Libraries have a host of events and activities for children and their families to enjoy on and around World Book Day. We are really excited that we can offer such a wide range of activities to encourage children to celebrate World Book Day and to discover reading and their local library. This year we also have copies of the World Book Day books to give away to visiting pupils as well as children who come along to our pre-school and after school events.
