An increase in geomagnetic activity is expected on the 17th August due to the anticipated arrival of an Earth-directed coronal mass ejection (CME) observed on the 14th August 2024.
Assuming clear, dark skies, there is a chance of seeing the aurora during the upcoming weekend (16th - 18th Aug) with best opportunity being on the night of 17th August. Those in Scotland, northern England and Northern Ireland have a better chance if the skies remain cloud free.
