First national-scale groundwater model in Great Britain released

BGS has released the British Groundwater Model (BGWM): the first integrated groundwater model covering Britain to simulate transient groundwater dynamics and surface water/groundwater interactions at the national scale.

The model provides a tool for a general assessment of groundwater resources in British aquifers and for improving current representations of groundwater flow in existing UK-focused land surface and water quality models.

BGS announces collaboration with Ordnance Survey

Ordnance Survey and BGS have teamed up to add a range of geological data products to the OS Data Hub, making it easier for users to access and use geospatial data.

The dazzling and colourful aurora borealis was observed in many parts of the UK on 10 May. BGS geoscientists have confirmed that it was was one of the most extreme geomagnetic storms recorded in the last 155 years.
