Heat Network Technical Assurance Scheme (HNTAS) Shadow Training Provider Appointed
We are pleased to announce that we have appointed the Building Engineering Services Association (BESA), as the Shadow Training Provider for the Heat Network Technical Assurance Scheme (HNTAS). BESA will play an instrumental role in developing and delivering the training required to underpin HNTAS.

Why we’ve appointed a Shadow Training Provider
Stakeholders have regularly raised the importance of setting up and delivering high quality training courses to prepare the market for regulation. We anticipate that HNTAS will introduce several new roles and create new job opportunities for the sector. The appointment of a Shadow Training Provider will facilitate the upskilling of the people needed to fulfil these roles. The Training Provider is ‘shadow’ as they will be active before HNTAS go-live.
Remit of work
The Shadow Training Provider will develop and deliver training courses, many of which will need to be attended by organisations and individuals before they will be able to undertake the formal roles created by HNTAS. The courses delivered will work towards achieving accreditation, which will ensure delegates receive high quality training and can perform key HNTAS roles to a high standard. The training courses are expected to be delivered throughout mid to late 2025.
Supporting the success of HNTAS
The delivery of training courses prior to scheme launch will help prepare the sector to supply enough trained individuals and organisations to meet sector demand for services like carrying out HNTAS assessments. The training developed and delivered will be relevant to heat network operators, developers, contractors and designers and will provide opportunities to get involved with HNTAS at an early stage. It will also pave the way for the training required once HNTAS is fully operational. Continuity of training before and after scheme launch will ensure the consistent supply of high-quality trained professionals needed to allow the scheme to run successfully.
Next Steps
We will be announcing further details about the courses available when they are ready, so keep an eye out for future updates! This is another exciting step forward in the development of the Heat Network Technical Assurance Scheme and moving the sector towards the new regulatory landscape.
