A number of heat network training opportunities are currently available until April 2025 through the Heat Training Grant.
You can get a grant of up to £500 towards the eligible courses below, meaning all or much of the cost will be covered by the grant.

BESA Academy
BESA Academy is the training arm of the Building Engineering Services Association (BESA). They offer a range of online regulatory courses and free Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training across the UK. In partnership with Manufacturers of Equipment for Heat Networks Association (MEHNA) and Thermal Insulation Contractors Association (TICA), they have developed two new Heat Network courses:
Heat Network Foundation Course
A short online awareness course, suitable for everyone working in the building engineering services industry. This course is a full introduction to heat networks, covering the basics, as well as differences between 3GDH, 4GDH, 5GDH networks, HIUs, water treatment and the basics of thermal insulation specification for secondary systems. The course covers various aspects related to the design, operation and management of heat networks, providing you with an overall awareness.
This short, one hour online course has been developed for anyone that wishes to increase their understanding of Heat Networks and their role in supporting the government's Net Zero targets.
Heat Networks Installation and Maintenance Course
An online theory course and a one-day practical delivered at approved training centres across the UK. The course introduces heat networks and covers many aspects including operation, health and safety, installation, water quality, metering and billing solution, and performance monitoring.
This course consists of 8 online modules followed by a 1day in-centre training event and is suitable for qualified heating, plumbing and RAC engineers who are interested in technologies that will help deliver the UKs Net Zero ambitions.
Chirpy Heat
Chirpy Heat is a supplier of independent heat network support and guidance to housing providers, reducing management and customers costs, reliability issues and complaints. They are offering four half-day training courses for the housing sector and their supply chain:
Heat network operation and maintenance for the housing sector
This course allows trainees to become a stronger, smarter client for heat networks through more effective procurement, oversight of contractors and understanding accountability in network design, delivery, operation and maintenance. This course is CPD Certified.

This course enables the supply chain to deliver better heat networks, take advantage of the growth in the sector and understand what makes their housing clients tick.
Strategic approaches to heat networks
This course is designed to enable you to deliver the vision of low cost, low carbon and reliable heat networks for you and your customers. It will help you map the strategic course for heat networks within your stock, ensure compliance with regulations and prepare for future policy changes. It will give you the confidence to engage in discussion about heat networks with your residents and stakeholders and with the supply chain. This course is CPD Certified.
Advanced strategic approaches to heat networks
This course is designed for those who’ve already taken our Strategic Approaches course, this session gives a deeper dive into compliant management of heat networks in housing, looking at the detail of what it means for your organisation and how you can plan and resource for full Regulation from 2025.
