Darker nights
As the darker night set in it’s a good time to consider all road users. While vehicle users are well catered for, other groups of road users like pedestrians and horse riders often face issues with using the roads safely this time of year. This year we are supporting the Operation Dark Nights campaign, a national initiative, that focuses on various road users on the basis that everyone has the right to use the roads safely whether choosing to do this via cycle, horse or foot.
We are using this campaign to encourage cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders to think about how visible they are to other road users, especially as the nights start to get darker and to consider wearing high visibility clothing and reflective material, to ensure they can be seen easily. Pedestrians are reminded to always use pedestrian crossings where possible, especially those taking new journeys to and from school. Cyclists should ensure their bike is in good working order and carries front and rear lights.
We are also urging motorists to look carefully for other road users, especially during the winter months. Unfortunately, collisions have occurred where vehicles have failed to see the presence of another road user when undertaking manoeuvres, overtaking or at junctions.
Making sure your car is winter ready is an important job to do this time of year. And we can help you at one of two special events to help you get your vehicle checked.
We are running two winter vehicle checks events in Luton. Join us on:
Saturday 23 November – 12-3pm
Thursday 28 November – 10am – 1pm
Luton Fire Station, Studley Road, Luton LU3 1BB

Cooking is one of the major causes of fires in the home. Please take care in the kitchen and follow these simple tips to stay safe when cooking.
|
If there is a fire in your home every second counts when escaping from your property. Having working smoke alarms and knowing the escape plan in an emergency could make all the difference.
|
Storing too many possessions in and around your home can increase the chance of a fire breaking out and intensify the ferocity of the flames.
